Danish Agency for Science and Higher Education 21 4. Conclusion Implications for the future of education in the US Is the future of education the end of the traditional university? A VR-based classroom with no teachers? Or maybe corporations dictating the curriculum? This outlook should not be considered as a crystal ball predicting how the future of education will look like, but rather an indication of trends that are present in the world’s leading tech hub, Silicon Valley (hence “Outlook”). Two trends should particularly be clear at this point: 1) Unbundling and 2) Changing demands. Unbundling has been outlined as a consequence of the “new alternatives” and serves as a reminder of how technology can leave room for specialization and provide consumers (in this case American students) with more choice and flexibility. The future of work is also a future of increasing automation, and the debate as well as industry demands related to the future of work further pushes the educational sector. Changing demands also means a change in education towards an information-age learning paradigm, formed by educators who can be supported by new technologies to ensure new ways of learning.
