Viscometer (lat. viscosus - viscous and ...meter) is a device that determines the 
viscosity of liquids and gases. Capillary, rotary, ball, ultrasonic viscometers are widely 
used. The operation of the capillary viscometer is based on passing a certain volume 
(amount) of liquid or gas through a thin round tube (capillary). The viscous substance 
to be tested in the rotary viscometer is inserted into the gap between two axial bodies 
(cylinders, cones, spherical bodies). One of the bodies (the rotor) rotates, the other 
remains stationary. Viscosity is determined by torque (known angular velocity) or 
angular velocity (known torque). Viscosity in a ball viscometer is determined by the 
speed of movement of the ball in the tested substance. The operation of the ultrasonic 
viscometer is based on the measurement of the damping rate of vibrations of a plate 
made of magnetostrictive material and inserted into the substance under test. These 
viscometers allow viscosity to be expressed in dynamic (Pas.) and kinematic (m2/s)

viscosity units. There is also a viscometer that allows you to measure the viscosity of 
liquids in conventional units. Such a viscometer consists of a tubular container divided 
into degrees. In this case, the viscosity is determined depending on the volume of 
liquid that has flowed through the tube during a certain time. In this case, viscosity is 
measured in seconds (s) and degrees of Engler. It is a laboratory viscometer equipped 
with a built-in temperature sensor, USB ports for connecting to a computer and printer, 
thermostatic devices and the ability to work with various spindles, including the "cone-
plate" system.
