Equipment, tools, samples and materials needed to complete the work: Muffle furnace, tank filled with water for tempering, Brinell equipment, magnifying glass for measuring traces, samples of duralumin alloys, sandpaper, cutter.

Procedure for performing laboratory work :

  • The hardness (in HB) of softened samples is measured and tabulated;

  • D 16 alloy is put into the furnace for tempering (furnace temperature is 500 50 C , heating time is calculated as 2 minutes per 1 mm);

  • Samples are taken out of the oven one by one and soaked in water;

  • After collecting, both sides of the samples are cleaned with sandpaper;

  • The hardness of the samples is measured and included in the table;

  • The collected samples are artificially aged one after the other for 30 minutes at a temperature of 1000C200 0 (for this, it is necessary to load the collected samples into ovens heated to 1000C, 2000C, one by one 3000C);

  • The aged samples are cleaned on both sides and measured in hardness (HB);

  • A graph of the dependence of the determined hardness on the artificial wear temperature is drawn;

  • The obtained data are included in table 14.1

Laboratory procedure:

  1. The microstructure of the studied non-ferrous metals and their alloys is drawn;

  2. Brands, chemical composition, properties of studied alloys, type of thermal treatment, number of phases, area of use of the alloy are written;

  3. The magnification level of the microscope is determined and recorded.

The following shall be included in the laboratory report:

  1. Schemes of microstructures of studied non-ferrous metals and alloys;

  2. State diagram of aluminum-silicon alloys;

  3. The essence of the processes of modification of silumin and aging of duralumin is highlighted;

  4. Properties and areas of use of studied non-ferrous metals and alloys are shown;

  5. General conclusions.
