GATda tahliliy ishlarni olib borishda yoki joyning tafsilotlarini tasvirlashda asosan vektor texnologiyaga asoslaniladi, shuning uchun ham geoaxborot tizimida vektor formatlar keng qodlaniladi. Bunday formatning ko‘plab qo‘llanilishiga yana bir sabab - bunday format orqali koordinatalarni, atribut ma’lumotlarni, ma’lumotlar bazasi tuzilmalarini saqlash va ularni tasvirlash birmuncha qulay. Quyidagi jadvalda ba’zi vektor fayl formatlari berilgan.
