Introduction
The first President Islam Karimov emphasized that “In the system of education we attach a great importance to teaching pupils not merely liberal arts and vocational skills, but also required learning of foreign languages, for this is critical for them to maintain pro-active communication with their counterparts abroad, get extensive knowledge of everything that is going on around the globe, and command the august world of intellectual treasure.” [1;]
The interest in learning English today is gaining a higher speed in the world as well as in Uzbekistan. The main factors for this phenomenon include expanding communication with the world after gaining the independence and increasing speed and scope of information exchange in the global village. The dominant position in the internet space by the language of the published content is firmly held by English, which is a strong motivation to learn English for those who wish to promote their global competences. Learning foreign languages has always been important throughout the history. In the past, people normally learned the languages of neighboring states; but this trend has shifted into studying the languages of economically advanced countries.
Teaching English as a foreign language or a second language to school children is a difficult process. Especially young learners, those attending primary school, will have reason for studying English. It is simply another subject that they have to study at school or that their parents have told them they need to learn. At this point in their lives, they may not know or comprehend how important these classes can be. They might view English classes as simply another fun daily activity and that is just fine. Even at this early age, teacher can encourage them to develop an interest in learning English which will stay with them long after they have finished these classes. Students at this level are just starting their academic careers. School may be intimidating for some of the students in English class so, in order to encourage everyone to participate, it is important to make these lessons relaxed and fun. Teaching English to pupils, those attending secondary school, will not be more difficult. Because they have an aim to study, they have their own thinking, outlook, they have an ability to differentiate, have general knowledge about English. But conducting them requires much effort from teachers.
English, as an international language, plays an increasingly crucial role in daily life in the world. The reason is that the significance of English is recognized by more and more people who learn the English language as their second language. Therefore, in many countries, English as L2 (ESL) has been taught to children since their early age. Vocabulary plays an important role in English acquisition, especially for young children. According to the Critical Period Hypothesis, there is a relationship between age and successful L2 acquisition (Lightbown & Spada 1999: 27). How to make use of young children’s age advantage in L2 acquisition is a matter that linguists and researchers are all concerned with. The core of language is communication. Comprehending the meaning of words is the foundation of
communication (Perry 2002). Therefore, finding an efficient teaching method for the meaning of words is necessary. The English adjective, which is considered as one of the traditional eight English parts of speech is worth studying (Wakish 2008). Many English learners find that it is difficult to describe a word with an English adjective of suitable meaning. Some of them have problems in retaining the adjectives’ meaning. However, the memory of the pupils will be more easily recalled when the memory connection is more traced rs 2001: 73-74).
