PART 1: INTRODUCTION (500 WORDS)
The introduction should give the reader a clear idea about the central issue of concern in your research
and why you thought that this was worth studying. The introduction should also include a full statement
of your research question(s) and research objectives. A brief discussion from the literature, addressing
the main point of your observation. The methodological approach: You should offer a general background
to the more specific detail on the research setting you include in the method chapter. It is also important

to include in this chapter a ‘route map’ to guide the reader through the rest of the report. This will give brief
details of the content of each chapter and present an overview of how your storyline unfolds.
The introduction helps put your project in conversation with other projects on similar topics. Generally, the
introduction provides necessary background information to your study and provides readers with some
sense of your overall research interest.
A good introduction should:
• Establish the general territory (real world or research) in which the research is placed.
• Describe the broad foundations of your study, including some references to existing literature
and/or empirically observable situations. In other words, the introduction needs to provide sufficient
background for readers to understand where your study is coming from.
• Indicate the general scope of your project, but do not go into so much detail that later sections
(purpose/literature review) become irrelevant.
• Provide research question and objectives of study.
• Provide an overview of the sections that will appear in your proposal.
