How precious also are Your thoughts to me, O 
God! How great is the sum of them! If I should 
count them, they would be more in number than 
the sand; when I awake, I am still with You (Ps. 
139:17,18).

Interpretation and Symbols 
Interpretation is a vital part of all dreams. Inaccurate 
interpretation can lead to much heartache, wasted time, money 
and loss of credibility if the dream has been told to others. The 
Holy Spirit and the Word are the main source of reliability. In-
terpretation and symbolism can be very encouraging. 
The Lord often spoke in symbols. In the Old Testa-
ment He told Moses that the Israelites would inhabit a land 
which was flowing with milk and honey (Deut. 6:3). He said He 
would satisfy them with honey from the rock (Ps. 81:16). He 
said also that though your sins are like scarlet, they will be as 
white as snow (Isa.1:18). He also said: He who dwells in the 
secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of 
the Almighty… He shall cover you with His feathers and under 
His wings you shall take refuge. His truth shall be your shield 
and buckler Psalm 91:11,2,4,5). Therefore as we seek to inter-
pret our dreams, we must think symbolically.
After we receive a dream, it is very important to ask 
the Holy Spirit for the interpretation. Astrologers or soothsayers 
claim they can interpret dreams, but they must be avoided at all 
costs. In the Old Testament book of Zechariah, God spoke 
about these false diviners. He said: 
For the idols speak delusion; the diviners envision 
lies, and tell false dreams; they comfort in vain, 
therefore the people wend their way like sheep; 
they are in trouble because there is no shepherd 
(Zech. 10:2)
