The educational system of language learning countries
The English language in education today is all-pervasive. “Hear more English, speak more English and become more successful” has become a self-fulfilling prophecy. Some say it’s already a universal language, ahead of other mother tongues such as Arabic, Chinese, Russian, Spanish or French. In reality, of course, this has been centuries in the making. Colonial conquest and global trade routes won the hearts and minds of foreign education systems. These days, the power of English (or the versions of English spoken in different countries) has become accepted wisdom, used to justify the globalisation of education at the cost of existing systems in non-English-speaking countries. The British Council exemplifies this, with its global presence and approving references to the “English effect” on educational and employment prospects.

Language and the class divide The love of all things English begins at a young age in non-English-speaking countries, promoted by pop culture, Hollywood movies, fast-food brands, sports events and TV shows.

Later, with English skills and international education qualifications from high school, the path is laid to prestigious international universities in the English-speaking world and employment opportunities at home and abroad. But those opportunities aren’t distributed equally across socioeconomic groups. Global education in English is largely reserved for middle-class students. This is creating a divide between those inside the global English proficiency ecosystem and those relegated to parts of the education system where such opportunities don’t exist. For the latter there is only the national education curriculum and the lesson that social mobility is a largely unattainable goal.
Comparing 2 educational systems
After I graduated from high school, I remember thinking I’ve wasted my time with education. It really isn’t helping me to face the reality. I even said it to my parents and my friends. My friends also agreed with me. We’re just accumulating knowledge and facts (that are already obsolete) into our brain, without practical knowledge and best practices to live the rest of my life. Then I realized. It’s too hard to teach someone how to live. Because everybody else is still figuring it out. No one really knows how to live. But then, is the education really beneficial for us? Or is it only narrowing our point of view? Supplying us with complicated but unnecessary formula?I guess I’ll never know. But without the education I received, I wouldn’t have been able to write here in English!I don’t watch the news, I read novels, non-fictions, Medium, watch NatGeo, NatGeo People, Youtube channels, and some TV series occasionally. I’m trying to stay away from the negativity. My recent discoveries have been very interesting, I can’t help but to share them with you guys! They are both about education, but in two contrasting circumstances. Massive education to overcome poverty I don’t know if you’ve heard of this one, but I just discovered it several days ago when I was watching NatGeo’s India’s Mega Kitchen. I was dumbfounded. They provide FREE education, food, and home for about 25,000 tribal children since 1993! It was founded by Dr. Achyuta Samanta, who experienced poverty firsthand as a child.
Global issues
As the world’s only truly universal global organization, the United Nations has become the foremost forum to address issues that transcend national boundaries and cannot be resolved by any one country acting alone. To its initial goals of safeguarding peace, protecting human rights, establishing the framework for international justice and promoting economic and social progress, in the seven decades since its creation the United Nations has added on new challenges, such as AIDS, big data and climate change. While conflict resolution and peacekeeping continue to be among its most visible efforts, the UN, along with its specialized agencies, is also engaged in a wide array of activities to improve people’s lives around the world – from disaster relief, through education and advancement of women, to peaceful uses of atomic energy. This section offers an overview of some of these issues, and links to other resources, where you can get additional information. A global issue is a matter of public concern worldwide. This list of global issues presents problems or phenomena affecting people around the world, including but not limited to widespread social issues, economic issues, and environmental issues. Organizations that maintain or have published an official list of global issues include the United Nations, and the World Economic Forum. No single issue can be analysed, treated, or isolated from the others.[4] For example, habitat loss and climate change adversely affect biodiversity. Deforestation and pollution are direct consequences of overpopulation and both, in turn, affect biodiversity. While overpopulation locally leads to rural flight, this is more than counterbalanced by accelerating urbanization and urban sprawl. Theories like the world-system theory and the Gaia hypothesis focus on the inter-dependency aspect of environmental and economic issues. Among the most evident environmental problems are:
