Lexical Stylistic Devices: Antonomasia, Irony, 
Irony is a stylistic device also 
based on the simultaneous realization of two logical meanings - dictionary and 
contextual, but the two meanings are in opposition to each other
. The literal meaning is the opposite of the 
intended meaning. Irony is based on the opposition of what is said to what is meant.

The emotive meaning of a term is 
the attitude or other emotional state that is conventionally taken to be expressed 
by a straightforward use of it

, as the connotation of “murder” when used instead of “homicide” or 
“drunk” instead of “inebriated.”
