When Beverly Hutnik and Simon Fullerton-Ballantin won £1.89m on the National Lottery,
they decided to spend it rather than save it. It’s been a full-time job. Beverly and Simon’s list of things to buy have cost them an amazing £833 every hour over the last 30 days. Many people think they’re wasting their money, but not
Simon. ‘What’s the point of not enjoying it?’ he says.
When Simon saw their numbers flash up on the
TV screen, the first thing he did was resign from his £300-a-week job as a builder. A few hours
later they visited their local Porsche showroom. ‘We went straight there when we found out,’ says Simon. ‘We didn’t even need a credit card. We
just showed the salesman our ticket.’
So the spending spree began and it hasn’t really stopped. Beverly and Simon could afford to buy not one, but two Porsches for £144,000. They’ve also bought three houses, two luxury holidays,
and a fabulous diamond ring from Harrods in London.
However, at the moment both of them are exhausted after four weeks of spending. Today they’ve only bought some milk to make a cup of tea. ‘I’m fed up with shopping,’ admits Beverly weakly. ‘All I want to do is rest.’
