e.g. I am beautiful, aren’t I?
I am clever, aren’t I?
(Don’t) + Bare infinitive + C + M, will / would you?
e.g. Don’t enter there, will you?
Be very careful, will you?
Let them write examples, will you?
Let’s + Bare infinitive + C + M, shall we?
e.g. Let’s not call them, shall we?
Let’s study hard in this month, shall we?
COMMAND TAGS
Command tags are used in order to express emotions mainly surprise and they give the same meaning as the word ,,Really’’.
A: S + P + C + M B: Auxiliary + S
A: S + Auxiliary + not + P + C + M B: Auxiliary + not + S
e.g. A: My students are only talking in English. B: Are they?
A: They didn’t attack him. B: Didn’t they?
A: I have taken the first place. B: Have you?
A: I am learning 2 languages. B: Are you?
A: We must pass to the third level. B: Must you?
A: We have to come every day. B: Do you?
A: They should solve at least half of them correctly. B: Should they?
ALTERNATIVE QUESTIONS
Alternative questions give to an answerer two or more choices (mainly two) and this choices are linked with the word ,,Or’’.
e.g. Would you like coffee or tea?
Do you wake up at 4 or at 10?
Have you brought apples or bananas?
Does Ann clean the room or library?
In order to form negative alternative questions the words ,,or’’ , ,,not’’ are added to the end of general question.
e.g. Have you brought the book or not?
Will you organize a party or not?
Did she come or not?
Were the dishes washed or not?
If a sentence is Subject alternative question sentence, we should put a suitable Auxiliary verb before the second subject.
e.g. Have you broken my glass or has your sister?
Do you bring your brother from kinder garden or does your mother?
Will she welcome or will you?
Were you the first or was he?
Did you solve all tests correctly or did she?
Do you love her or does your friend?
