Project Management in the Oil and Gas Industry
5.11.4 Approval of the Design
After all departments agree on the design and send the drawings to the
project, where they are reviewed according to Form (6a),
make sure the
design complies with the requirements of the owner and the specifications
and standards that were agreed upon before it is sent to the owner through
Form (9a).
When there are comments from the owner, the
project manager will send
the comments to the departments using Form (8a) and each department
will review them and send them to the owner again. There is often more
than one department responsible for this change,
which can directly or
indirectly affect from the main activity of the work before the amendment.
There are other departments, such as the cost control department, which
are required to determine the change in costs as
a result of the change in
the original design and have the burden of negotiating the change in the
price.
In general, the feasibility study may be affected by this change. Therefore,
the department that prepared the feasibility study in the beginning has to
determine the direct impact
on the feasibility study, whether positive or
negative as a result of the change in the design. This form is often com-
pleted by holding a meeting between all the departments in charge of the
project with the proposed change of the owner
and by taking suggestions
from the various parties.
It is worth mentioning that, upon completion of the drawings, the
work of all the changes and revisions are to be finally delivered. These
final drawings must be stamped with red
and marked as approved for
construction.
