5.11.1 Inputs and Outputs of the Design Phase
Each department should determine with all team
members what their role
is, precisely, using Form (4a) to determine what is required from them
in the design stage. We note that through this form input parameters in
design for the project’s general specifications and
the type of structure are
selected, the required structural analysis for if it is a preliminary or detail
design is determined, and it is required to identify the required drawings’
types as either construction drawings or just field sketches.
It also determines the size of the final drawing and notes that all the
information is based on that which was defined
by the owner and the
engineering office through the SOR and BOD documents, which precisely
reflect the demands of the owner.
Upon completion of the drawings, it is required
that the final work is
reviewed and team members have signed it, through Form (5a). Then
comes the role of team quality assurance review, through the forms and
making sure that each signature is in place in accordance with the responsi-
bility of the person and that each engineer has passed
all the steps required
without neglecting any step. All this should be done before sending the
drawings to the client.
We also note from this model any previous versions that have been pre-
pared and recorded in history as well as a description of the detailed obser-
vations required by the owner.
It can also measure the difference between the estimated time to com-
plete the drawings
and the actual time spent, which is an indirect way of
knowing the efficiency of departments and their time management.
