The official name is the Republic of Turkey. It is located at the junction of two continents: of the total area of the country, which is 783,577 km2, 759,752 km2 (97% of the territory) is located in Asia and 23,825 km2 (3%) is located in Europe (the Asian part of the country is called Anatolia, and the European part is Thrace). The capital is Ankara. The geographical feature of Turkey is its location at the crossroads of important routes connecting Europe with Asia, the Black Sea countries and peoples with the Mediterranean since ancient times. Turkey borders Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaijan and Iran in the east; Iraq and Syria in the south; Greece and Bulgaria in the west. Turkey is washed by four seas: the Black, Mediterranean, Aegean and Marmara.

Climate

  • Turkey — is a predominantly mountainous country. In this regard, the country's climate has on average a mountainous character and features of a continental climate. Summers in Turkey are hot and dry everywhere, winters are snowy and cold. On the Aegean and Mediterranean Seas, the climate is Mediterranean, with milder winters, stable snow cover is not formed. On the Black Sea, the climate is temperate marine with its characteristic warm summers and cool winters. The temperature in winter (in January) is about +5 °C, in summer (in July) — about +23 °C. Precipitation falls up to 1000-2500 mm per year. In summer, the average daily temperature can exceed 30 and (occasionally) 35 °C, and the heat can exceed +40 °C, but this is relatively rare on the southern coast of Turkey. In the south-east of Turkey, the climate has the features of a tropical desert, and the humidity is low, in contrast to the high humidity on the Black Sea coast.
