Element 3. Corpus based examples

The Corpus of Contemporary American English (COCA) is the only large "representative" corpus of American English. COCA is probably the most widely used English corpus and it is linked to many other English corpus we have created. These corpus were once called "BYU Corpora" and they provide unparalleled insight into variation in English.

The database contains more than a billion words of text (more than 25 million words per year from 1990 to 2019) from eight genres: oral, fiction, popular magazines, newspapers, academic texts and (with updates) March 2020): TV and film. subtitles, blogs and other sites.
