Reflection

Intonation is one of the most important patterns that play a prominent role in learning English. While teaching English, I use several materials, for example, to improve my reading skills. I remember one time when I asked students to read the passages given in the handout, most of them read the sentences without paying attention to the rules of intonation. So when I listen to them, I don't understand what they are reading. In the text there can be interrogative sentences, affirmative sentences, affirmative sentences, imperative sentences and learners need to follow the rules of intonation to read correctly. Likewise, it is very important to remember a rule written in Yavas "The meaning of a sentence may depend on its intonation pattern". For example, if we pronounce the string "His uncle is coming next week" with a lowered tone, it will be interpreted as an affirmation.


Otherwise, we sound the same but increase the sound at the end, it will be interpreted as a question' .
Currently, most English learners use American English rather than British English. When I listen to my students' speeches, I often realize that they speak with an American accent. It may be because American speeches are spreading through internet sources. My students are used to listening to them and they are very interested in motivational speakers. Obviously this is a very good way to improve speaking skills, but I try to give my students the differences between the English accents so they can tell them apart easily. "In an accent, there will always be variations depending on the speaker's physical characteristics, their geographical location, or because some speakers have used a new form, a new word, or a new sound. from another group or another language". For example: organize-organize, program-program, color-color.
