TEACHING LEXICS TO THE PUPILS OF LEVEL A 2.
CONCLUSION
The importance of interactive classroom activities in teaching pronunciation is considered very necessary for us. Because we need to know the pronunciation of any word before speaking. Therefore, the ability to identify and produce the key sounds in English and its basic rhythm, stress and intonation in the context patterns .Increase confidence in the way we speak. Develop speech observation skills for use outside the classroom. Also, pronunciation is important for improving reading skills. We know that we cannot speak without pronunciation. Correct pronunciation is the key to mastering the English language. If not pronounced correctly, the vocabulary you know will be ineffective in communicating. It can also cause people to run away communicating with you because they find you too difficult to talk to. Thus, good pronunciation is more than mastering individual sounds. It is also about understanding intonation and stress. Read poems, speeches and songs aloud, paying attention to words and intonation. Teaching pronunciation has witnessed remarkable changes throughout the history of language teaching and learning. As one of the most neglected aspects of English language teaching, pronunciation gained attention only in the latter half of the 20th century with the rise of audiolingualism and the direct method. Throughout history, teachers and applied linguists have been concerned with the difficulty of teaching this skill. In this context, they have tried to develop different styles and techniques, relying on other sub-disciplines such as phonetics, phonology and second language acquisition. Taking phonetics and phonology as a basis, teachers tried to use various components of these basic subjects to apply in their classrooms. In this regard, this article attempts to show the importance of phonetics and phonology in teaching pronunciation. Therefore, it begins by defining and contextualizing the issue of teaching pronunciation. Second, the various components of phonetics and phonology are emphasized as they relate to the teaching of pronunciation. Next, some practical methods and activities involving the use of phonetics and phonology in teaching pronunciation are presented. Phonology and phonetics are important for this good pronunciation. For a long time, teachers have been trying to find the right way to teach the sounds of a foreign language that are different from the mother tongue without using the orthographic alphabet. Among the most useful solutions proposed is the use of the international phonetic alphabet. IPA aims to provide visual distinguishing marks for all phonologically distinct speech sounds in any language. Since its development, various versions of IPA have been adopted by teachers for inclusion in textbooks for teaching pronunciation. From the same point of view, phonetics brought new concepts in the teaching of pronunciation. Broughton, concerned with "the study of the physical properties of sounds and their position in the vocal tract and manner of articulation," constitutes an important tool used in teaching pronunciation. For example, in any description of the English sound system, speech sounds are divided into consonants and vowels. The following Haycraft consonants can be characterized according to the movements of the mouth during articulation (bilabial, dental, alveolar, palatal, velar) or the nature of the airflow, the position and movement of the tongue, as well as the presence of voice. used or not used (voiced, voiceless, plosive, affricate, fricative, nasal, lateral). Vowels, on the other hand, are mostly described in terms of tongue position and lip rounding. These detailed phonetic descriptions are not arbitrary, as they are of great importance in teaching pronunciation. It is useful to be aware, because many of the mistakes made by students are related to small differences in sound production. Download 42.71 Kb. Do'stlaringiz bilan baham: |
