Presentation of Lesson:
The teacher will process the ideas of the students and connect it to the lesson.
Lesson Proper:
Activity
Ask the students to go their respective group. Each group will come up with specific set of behaviors, the do’s and don’ts and language which do not exist in reality. They should know the meaning and how to use their language. (5 minutes)
Instruct them that they will act the particular behavior and use their chosen unique language in a party.
Once you see that all groups are ready, give the signal for the ‘party’ to begin.
Once the ‘party’ begins, go around making sure that your students refrain from speaking with their group mates and do not share the rules which they created in their groups. They should only talk and mingle to other groups.
The party begins when the music is play. (5 minutes)
Ask the question: What have you observed during the party especially when you communicate to other groups?
Based on what they have observed, ask each group to define intercultural communication.
Analysis
The teacher will ask:
What do you think are the conflicts that we can encounter in intercultural communication?
Why is it that people in different countries behave in different manner?
Do you think that culture and language are being connected when we communicate? Why?
How are we going to have effective intercultural communication considering we have different cultural perspective?
Why is “releasing the right responses” more important than “sending the right message” in intercultural communication?
The teacher will process their answer that will lead them on how to develop appreciation to different cultural perspective.
The teacher will present the Model of Intercultural Sensitivity.
Abstraction
What is intercultural communication?
Being a speaker, how are you going to communicate to others especially if you are new to the place?
Application
Each group will pick up a certain situation and let them demonstrate effective intercultural communication skill in order to solve the given problem.
