MENAKA GURUSWAMY
Menaka Guruswamy practices law at the Supreme Court of India. Her doctoral thesis work, which is underway from Oxford University, is on anti-terror laws in India. She has worked at the Office of the Attorney General of India (Ashok H. Desai), the highest office that represents the central government in the Supreme Court of India. She has also practiced law in New York as an associate at Davis Polk & Wardwell, where her primary area of practice was commercial law. Menaka has also worked as a consultant for the United Nations Development Program, the United Nations Development Fund for Women (UNIFEM), and the Government of India, providing advice on law reform. In 2006-2007, she taught at New York University's School of Law. Her most recent publications include pieces on the constitutional process in Nepal, on constitutional values and the Supreme Court
in India, on how to combat financing of terrorism, on financing the Lashkar-e-Toiba, and on the National Investigative Agency Act, 2008. Menaka was a Rhodes Scholar at Oxford University, and a Gammon Fellow at Harvard Law School, and a gold medalist from the National Law School of India. She has law degrees from all three schools, with a focus on Constitutional Law and Public International Law. She is a member of the Supreme Court Bar Association, New Delhi, and admitted to the Bar in New York.
AZIZ HAKIMI
Aziz Hakimi is Country Director of Future Generations in Afghanistan, an international non-profit NGO and parallel graduate school that builds local capacity worldwide through a Masters degree in Applied Community Change and Conservation. He has worked as policy advisor for President Karzai of Afghanistan and as Human Rights Advisor with the United Nations in Pakistan and Afghanistan. He also directed a local media NGO and expanded independent radio broadcast and distribution of weekly publications throughout Afghanistan. PIYA HANVORAVONGCHAI
Piya Hanvoravongchai is a lecturer in health policy at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (University of London) based in Thailand. He is a physician with interests in international health policy and health economics. After starting his career as a medical doctor in rural Thailand, Piya's work expanded to health policy and system research, including health systems development, health care financing, health systems performance, and human resources for health. He was a Global Health Leadership Fellow at the World Health Organization working on health systems performance measurement and health financing policy. While at the Global Equity Initiative, Harvard University, he coordinated a network of over 200 global health experts to address the global crisis in the
research concerns communicable diseases policy, including the feasibility of measles eradication and health systems' preparation for pandemic influenza in Asia. Piya received his medical degree from Mahidol University, Thailand, and his Masters and Doctoral degrees from the London School of Economics and Harvard University, respectively.
SARAH HASHWANI
Sarah was elected as chairperson of HOAP, Pakistan in 2003. In 2007, three non-profit organizations supported by the Family Foundation were merged under one, i.e., Hashoo Foundation. In September 2007, she was accepted as a Member of the Clinton Global Initiative, representing Hashoo Foundation at the conference in New York, where it was granted a certification for its achievements for poverty alleviation. Sarah is a board member of Shia Imami Ismaili Council Pakistan, NAVTEC, GPC, President TiE Islamabad, Director Corporate Governance and Strategic Planning-Hashoo Group, IFC Certified Board Director-Hashoo Group Board. Her ambition is to serve humanity and devote her education, experience, and resources to help human development and poverty alleviation and enable the youth to achieve a brighter future. HOUMAN HEMMATI
Houman Hemmati is an ophthalmologist at Johns Hopkins Hospital and is Global Task Force chairman at the American Jewish Committee. He was born in Iran, and fled to the United States with his family during the revolution in 1979. He attended Stanford, where he co- discovered fetal blood-forming stem cells and revamped the undergraduate education system with then-provost Condoleezza Rice. Following a fellowship in prostate cancer research at the Howard Hughes Medical Institute, Houman earned his MD at UCLA Medical School, concurrent with his PhD at Caltech. There, he was the first to publish that brain tumors arise from stem cells.
JUNG-WOOK HONG
Jung-wook Hong is an elected member of the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea, representing the Nowon Byung District in Seoul. He is currently serving on the Foreign Affairs, Trade and Unification Committee, as well as the Special Committee on South-North Korean Relations. Jung-wook also served on the Special Committee on US Beef Imports, a highly publicized parliamentary committee organized to review the Korea-US beef import accord signed in April 2008. Prior to entering politics, he had been the chairman and CEO of Herald Media, a leading media group in Korea, which includes The Korea Herald, the nation's largest English newspaper, and The Herald Business, a leading Korean business daily. Jung-wook was also the Chairman and CEO of HMX Donga TV, a premier television network for women. He remains the largest shareholder of both
Herald Media and HMX Donga TV. Active in the field of foreign relations, he is a board director of the Korean-American Association and a member of the Policy Advisory Committee of the Asia Society. A lover and patron of the arts, he also serves on the Operating Advisory Committee of the National Museum of Korea, the Operating Committee of the Seoul National University Museum of Art, and the Supporting Committee of the Gloria Opera Company. Jung-wook also leads and sponsors the Nowon Voll Ensemble Company, a youth chamber orchestra in his electoral district. Previously, he passed the New York Bar and worked as an investment banker at Lehman Brothers in the US. He was a founder and the chairman of Struxicon, an internet startup in California. He was selected as a Young Global Leader by the World Economic Forum in 2005, an Asia 21 Fellow by the Asia Society in 2006, and a Young Europe-Asia Leader by the BMW Herbert Quandt Foundation. He has published many articles and books, including Seven Acts Seven Scenes, an autobiography that has sold over 1.2 million copies to date. Jung-wook received his A.B. from Harvard University and J.D. from Stanford University. He also studied at Peking University and Seoul National University. In 2005, he received an honorary doctorate in political science from Yongin University in Korea.
SARA HOSSAIN
Sara Hossain practices constitutional, public interest, human rights and family law in the Supreme Court of Bangladesh and is based at Dr. Kamal Hossain and Associates. She works actively with two human rights organizations, the Bangladesh Legal Aid and Services Trust (BLAST) and Ain o Salish Kendra (ASK). She is a Board Member of the South Asian Women's Fund, and also a Member of the Chittagong Hill Tracts Commission. She earlier ran the South Asia Programme at the international human rights organization, INTERIGHTS. Sara writes and lectures on issues of human rights, women's rights, public interest law and access to justice and her publications include (co-edited with Lynn Welchman) "Honour: Crimes, Paradigms and Violence against Women,” “Socio-Economic Rights in South Asia” (with Iain Byrne) in Social Rights
Jurisprudence, and Remedies for Rights to Choice in Marriage (forthcoming 2009). She was educated at Wadham College, Oxford University (MA (Hons) 1988), and called to the Bar from Middle Temple (1989).
BI-KHIM HSIAO
Bi-khim Hsiao is Vice President of Liberal International, an organization of liberal political parties around the world. She was previously a Member of Taiwan’s Legislative Yuan. Although she was one of the youngest members, Bi-Khim has been active in Taiwan politics for over a decade. She was also Chair of the Foreign Relations Committee in the Legislative Yuan. Bi-Khim has has been the Director of International Affairs for the governing Democratic Progressive Party, Consultant to the Mainland Affairs Council, spokesperson for Chen Shui-bian’s 2000 and 2004 presidential campaigns, Advisor to the Office of the President, Secretary General of the Council of Asian Liberals and Democrats, and President of the Taiwan Association for Women in Sports. In addition to foreign policy issues, she continues to be outspoken on immigrant rights, gender equality, sports,
human rights and other issues in Taiwan.

EUGENE J. HUANG
Eugene J. Huang currently serves as the Government Operations Director for the National Broadband Task Force at the US Federal Communications Commission. Eugene is helping to craft the "national purposes" section of the National Broadband Plan, with a specific focus on the topics of government operations and civic engagement. From 2006 to 2009, he served at the US Department of the Treasury under two separate secretaries of the Treasury, as Policy Advisor to the Secretary and previously as a White House Fellow. In these roles, Eugene covered a wide range of international economic and finance issues with a special responsibility for US bilateral relations with China; China Strategic Economic Dialogue (SED) and its successor, the US-China Strategic and Economic Dialogue (S&ED). Previously, he was a Visiting Scholar at the Stanford Institute for Economic Policy Research (SIEPR) at Stanford University. From 2002 to 2006, Eugene served the Commonwealth of Virginia under Governor Mark R. Warner as the Secretary of Technology and previously as the Deputy Secretary of Technology. Appointed in 2004 as the youngest cabinet member in Virginia history at the age of 28, he was a key member of the management team responsible for Virginia's designation as the nation's best-managed state in 2005. Eugene was also responsible for managing the state's award winning information technology reform initiative, fostered the development of advanced broadband communications, and facilitated the growth of emerging technology industries throughout Virginia. Eugene graduated magna cum laude from the University of Pennsylvania, with a BS in Economics from the Wharton School, a BS in Electrical Engineering, and an MS in Telecommunications Engineering. He received a Thouron Award from the University of Pennsylvania and studied at St. John's College, Oxford University, where he received a M.Phil. with distinction, in Economic History. Eugene is a term member of the Council on Foreign Relations and a member of the International Institute for Strategic Studies.
FAZIL IRWAN
Fazil Irwan is a Director at the World Islamic Economic Forum (WIEF) Foundation, heading the department of editorial and business development and responsible for all publications of the Foundation. As a professional translator and copywriter, he has written speeches for the Chairman of the Foundation, the Prime Minister and the Deputy Prime Minister of Malaysia on various occasions. He is also the Co-Founder and Head Coordinator of the WIEF Young Leaders Network's Internship and Scholarship Programme, responsible for placing bright students of the Muslim world for internship opportunities abroad and granting scholarship for students to pursue further studies. He founded WorkPlayAsia, a fun cultural-based internship agency company, to bring young people in North America and Europe for internship placements in Malaysia while enjoying a program of local cultural exposure. He used to work on projects for BBC and Thomson on translation and linguistics. Fazil was a British Chevening Scholar, obtaining a Masters degree from the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS) London.
ZAHID JAMIL
Zahid U. Jamil is a Barrister-at-Law and Senior Partner at Jamil & Jamil Barristers-at-Law. He is a specialist in Banking, International Law, Property Law, Constitutional, Conflicts of Laws, Corporate Finance, Securitization, International Law of Trade (WTO), Privatization, Petroleum Law, Recovery of Loans, Transportation Law, Corporate and Commercial matters. Zahid has been, as a member of the Information Technology Law Forum, Ministry of Science & Technology, responsible as the core drafter of the Electronic Transactions Ordinance, 2002 and is currently working on the drafts of the Cyber Crimes Law, the Electronic Banking Law, Telecommunication & Convergence Law and the Anti-Trust Law relating to the Information Technology Industry of Pakistan. At present he is advising the US Government on a major project based in Pakistan, the
State Bank of Pakistan on various regulatory issues and advising the first Pakistani Export Finance Agency Ltd. (PEFGA) on issues from incorporation to treaty reinsurance, Export Credit and Trade Law. He is a Professor of US Constitutional Law at the Sindh Muslim Law College, University of Karachi, and also lectures in U.K. Constitutional Law for the LL.B. (Hons), University of London at L'Ecole, Karachi. He graduated from University College, London with an LLB (Hons), is a Barrister of the Honourable Society of Gray's Inn, London, U.K and an advocate of the High Courts of Pakistan.
T. JAYASHREE
T.Jayashree is an independent documentary film maker. She has written, directed and produced for radio, television and independent feature documentaries and feature film in India and abroad. Apart from film making, she worked as a trade union activist for two years with an independent trade union of construction workers in Delhi. She received the Indo German Social Service Fellowship from 1991-1993. She is also a board member for SANGAMA, a sexual minorities human rights organization in Bangalore and President of MILANA – a community-based organization of women affected and infected by HIV/AIDS in Bangalore. Her international
Americans, a series on immigrants to the US in the late 1990s. Independent films include Many People Many Desires, on class and sexuality in India, and A Human Question, on HIV/AIDS and global access to affordable medicines. Both films are widely screened around the world and are part of the open source initiative “PADMA.” She conducts film screenings, sexuality and sex education classes for high school children in Bangalore. Currently, she is researching the impact of development aid in India. She lives in Bangalore, India.

PRASHANT JHA
Prashant Jha is an independent journalist based in Kathmandu. He is a weekly columnist for the Nepali Times on national politics, ethnic movements, and geo-political influence especially India's Nepal policy. Prashant is also a contributing editor with Himal Southasian Magazine, where he has reported on the changing dynamics of Indian foreign policy, the Naxalite insurgency, the aftermath of the Gujarat riots, and elections in Nepal. Prashant regularly comments and writes on Nepal for international broadcasters and publications, and speaks to diverse audiences. He is currently working on a book on Nepal's political transition, to be published by Penguin India in 2010.

Mike graduated from MIT.
Natalie Christine "Ching" Virata Jorge is the Vice President and Director for Programs and Research at the Bato Balani Foundation, Inc., a non-profit foundation engaged in the management and implementation of educational development programs in the Philippines. Committed to social and youth development, Ching is also the Chair/Lead Convenor for Young Public Servants (YPS), a youth organization that aims to harness a new generation of young leaders who support and advocate democratic citizenship and good governance. She is also the Chairperson of the Research Committee of the League of Corporate Foundations (LCF), the leading proponent of corporate social responsibility (CSR) programs in the Philippines, and the founder of Project LIA (Love in Action), an advocacy campaign in support of Orphanages and Day Care Centers. Ching’s commitment to development work includes original research, consulting and volunteer activities with various academic
institutions and NGOs. She has undertaken lead roles in development and research programs on CSR, Policy Development and Education. She has over a decade of experience in social development, including work with the Philippine National Museum Foundation, the Policy Center and the Center for Corporate Social Responsibility of the Asian Institute of Management. Ching has also published a number of articles and research on Education, Youth Development, Governance, and Corporate Social Responsibility.
Hong Ju Khee is Media Advisor for the Ministry of Information of the Government of Malaysia. She is also a director of an independent media and public affairs consulting firm. She led the revamp of the national Mandarin news and created a ground-breaking talk show. In her television career, she anchored the daily news in English, Malay and Chinese over a decade. She built and headed NTV7's Mandarin news desk from scratch into the top- rated news program and was voted the country's most popular news presenter. As executive producer she conceptualized and hosted award-winning programs. In 2000, she was selected as one of TAG Heuer's Asian Women of the Millenium alongside Zhang Ziyi and Coco Lee.
ROMMEL TAMBUNTING JUAN
Rommel Tambunting Juan is the President of Philippines native food chain, Binalot Fiesta Foods, Inc., and General Manager and VP for Sales and Marketing of Jeep body builder and exporter, MD Juan Enterprises. In 2005, he was awarded as one of the Top Ten Entrepreneurs by Entrepreneur Magazine. In November 2007, Rommel and Binalot won a once-in-a-lifetime Centennial Prize in the worldwide UPS Out-of-the-Box Small Business Contest, cited for "best exemplifying the end-to-end service theme of UPS's Centennial Celebration". In February 2008, Binalot received a prestigious Anvil Award of Merit from the Public Relations Society of the Philippines (PRSP). Rommel organized the Dangal at Hanapbuhay para sa Nayon (Dahon) Foundation,
Binalot's CSR program to help the impoverished banana farmers of Southern Tagalog. He was also at the forefront of organizing an all- Filipino group, the Association of Filipino Franchisers, Inc., (AFFI) where he is currently the President. AFFI's advocacy is responsible

franchising, a concept that ensures aspiring Filipino entrepreneurs are not shortchanged by irresponsible franchisers. At MD Juan Enterprises, Rommel set up an On-the-Job Training (OJT) program for graduating mechanical and industrial engineering students from several universities, preparing them for work in production, process engineering, vehicle & parts design, industrial engineering, production planning, warehousing, inventory control and quality control. Today, preparations are being made to make MD Juan an accredited training center for welders, tinsmith, metalworkers, tool & die makers, machine shop operators and painters. This will give young workers the exposure they need before they seek full-time employment either here or abroad. Rommel obtained his BS Marketing degree from De La Salle University and his Master in Entrepreneurship diploma from the Asian Institute of Management.
