CECILE VICTORIA ALCANTARA DOMINGUEZ

 

 

Cecile Victoria Alcantara Dominguez is the Executive Director of Conrado and Ladislawa Alcantara Foundation, 

Inc,  a  non-profit,  civil  society,  family  foundation.  In  this  role,  Cecile  develops  and  implements  programs  in 

education, health, enterprise development, and environment. The foundation's operations cover more than 15,000 

beneficiaries in six municipalities. She was previously program director for education at the League of Corporate 

Foundations. Cecile is also the convener of Sarangani Youth Forum and YouthVote Philippines-Sarangani and

DENNIS ECLARIN

 

 

 

Dennis Eclarin is a Director in the Philippines Army and the Founder of Hometown Corporation, a company whose 

aim is to alleviate poverty in geographically-isolated highland and island towns. After graduating from the United 

States Military Academy at West Point, Major Eclarin served as a combat commander in the elite Scout Ranger 

Regiment  of  the  Philippine  Army.  While  in  the  war  zones,  he  authored  two  books  on  combat  techniques. 

Convinced  that  he  had  to  fight  another  war,  he  soon  advocated  social  entrepreneurship.  Thus  he  founded 

Hometown Corporation, a microfinance company solely dedicated to serving hard to reach areas. He is an Asia 

Society Asia 21 Fellow in the Class of 2007.

 

 

 

 

 

FAHMI FADZIL

 

 

Fahmi Fadzil is a partner at Bright Lights at Midnight at the Five Arts Center in Kuala Lumpur. As a performer, writer, and ex-chemical 

engineer, he is a member of arts collective Five Arts Centre, partner at creative studio Bright Lights At Midnight, principal coordinator of 

wayang experimentation group Projek Wayang, and host for the online interview program, The Fairly Current Show. He writes for various 

online and print media on urban youth culture. Fahmi was the recipient of the Most Promising Artist Award at the BOH Cameronian Arts 

Awards 2006, and was a theatre finalist for the Rolex Mentor and Protege Arts Initiative 2008/2009.

 

 

 

MING FAN

 

 

 

Ming Fan is an award-winning TV producer for News Probe, the only in-depth investigative reporting program at 

China Central TV Station (CCTV). Her work, The Unnatural Death of a Cat, investigated one of the most infamous 

incidents  in  China's  powerful  Internet  culture,  and  received  the  2006  Special  Jury  Award  from  the  China 

Documentary  Association.  Another  piece,  In  the  Name  of  Life,  was  the  first  show  to  cover  the  real  life  of 

homosexuals in China, and won the 2006 Chinese Academic Award for best TV documentary. Fan has also won 

numerous Golden Awards at CCTV for her investigation into sensitive news issues and scandals, including high 

ranking  corruption,  child  suicide,  medical  malpractice,  environmental  pollution,  and  social  injustice.  From 

September 2007 to July 2008, she studied under the auspices of the Nieman Foundation at Harvard University. 

She participated in the Tallberg Forum in Sweden in June 2008. She was held in custody in Chengdu Prison for

 

 

seven days due to the in-depth investigative documentary she was shooting on the collapsed "shoddy buildings" in October 2008. She 

participated in the Asia 21 Young Leaders Summit in November 2008 as a delegate, and became an Asia 21 Fellow in March 2009.

 

 

 

EVELYN N. FARKAS

 

 

Evelyn N. Farkas is a Senior Fellow at the American Security Project. In 2008 she served as Executive Director of the 

congressionally-mandated  Commission  on  the  Prevention  of  Weapons  of  Mass  Destruction  Proliferation  and 

Terrorism. From 2001 to 2008, she served as a Professional Staff Member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, 

conducting policy and budget oversight of the Department of Defense policy office and military commands including 

the US Pacific Command, Special Operations Command, Southern Command, Northern Command, and US Forces 

Korea. Her issue areas included foreign and defense policy in Asia Pacific and the Western Hemisphere, and worldwide 

special operations, combating terrorism, foreign military assistance, peace and stability operations,

 

 

counternarcotics efforts, homeland defense, and export control policy. Prior to assuming that position, she was a professor of international 

relations at the US Marine Corps Command and Staff College, Marine Corps University. She served in Bosnia as a Human Rights Officer 

for the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) in 1996, and as an Election Supervisor in 1997. She is also the author 

of Fractured States and US Foreign Policy: Iraq, Ethiopia, and Bosnia in the 1990s. She is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations, 

International Institute for Security Studies, Women in International Security Studies. Evelyn obtained her MA and

 

 

PhD from The Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy.

 

 

MICHAEL R. FENZEL

 

 

Michael R. Fenzel is an active duty army lieutenant colonel (selected early for promotion to the rank of colonel). 

He is currently a PhD student in national security studies at the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, California. 

He has recently served as an airborne battalion task force commander in Afghanistan (2007-08) and as the deputy 

commander for the 1st Brigade of the 82d Airborne Division (2005-06). As a field grade officer, he served a year-

long tour in Iraq, after taking part in the parachute assault into northern Iraq in March 2003. He served close to two 

years as a Director for Transnational Threats at the National Security Council. In this capacity, he oversaw the 

coordination and implementation of US counter-terrorism policy. He  has also served as a Strategist and Policy 

Analyst for the Army Chief of Staff at the Pentagon. As an infantry officer in the US

Army, Michael has led soldiers through Operation Desert Storm, served as a battalion logistics officer in Bosnia in 1995, commanded two 

paratrooper companies in Italy (through the defense of the US embassy and evacuation of 1,400 people during Operation Assured Response 

in Liberia in 1996), and served as an airborne battalion executive officer in Iraq. Michael was a Term Member with the Council on Foreign 

Relations and is a former White House Fellow. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from the Johns Hopkins University 

and holds Masters degrees from Harvard University and the US Naval War College, both with an emphasis on international security.

 

 

 

BHAVANI FONSEKA

 

 

Bhavani Fonseka is presently working as a Senior Researcher with the Centre for Policy Alternatives, a think tank in Sri Lanka, conducting 

research, documentation, national and international advocacy and litigation. She is a human rights lawyer and activist, with a focus on 

assisting victims and affected populations in various parts of Sri Lanka. She has worked on a range of issues including the rights of the 

displaced, women, children, minorities, HIV/AIDS, land and legal issues. She has been involved in and supported several key fundamental 

rights cases protecting the rights of victims in recent times in Sri Lanka. Bhavani has an LLB (Hons) (UK) and LLM (in international 

human rights law) (USA). In 2007, she was awarded 'The Young Outstanding Persons' (TOYP) in the category of human rights by the 

Junior Chamber International and HSBC Bank.

 

 

 

KOK JWEE FOO

 

 

Kok Jwee Foo is a Singaporean diplomat. He is currently leading a team that oversees Singapore's relations with 

Indonesia  in  the  Foreign  Ministry.  Kok  Jwee  is  also  the  Deputy  Head  of  two  study  groups  looking  at  inter-

disciplinary issues in the Ministry. From 2002 to 2006, he served in the Singapore Embassy in Jakarta, first as First 

Secretary and then as Counselor. In 2002, he represented Singapore as a delegate at the 57th United Nations General 

Assembly. Kok Jwee has won several Singapore Foreign Ministry awards for excellence in political analysis. He 

speaks fluent Indonesian in addition to English and Mandarin. He graduated with a Bachelor of Engineering from 

the National University of Singapore, and his final year research thesis was published in the International Journal 

of Impact Engineering. Kok Jwee earned his Master in Public Administration from Harvard University's Kennedy 

School of Government as a Mason Fellow.

 

 

 

VAHID FOTUHI

 

 

Vahid  Fotuhi  is  British  Petroleum  (BP)  Solar's  Middle  East  Director,  based  in  Dubai.  He  is  responsible  for 

developing solar power partnerships and projects in the fast-growing Middle East region. He is also in charge of 

working closely with the Persian Gulf governments to help them define and meet their renewable energy targets by 

harnessing their abundant supply of solar power. Prior, Vahid was the head of BP's Middle East Market Analysis for 

the Supply & Trading division. Previous to that, Vahid was the Manager for BP's communications and corporate 

social responsibility in North Africa. Whilst based in Algeria, he was able to implement initiatives which ranged 

from providing 600 local artisans with the tools to enhance their trade, to helping promote a world-scale

 

 

CO2 carbon sequestration scheme in the Saharan desert. Over the past 15 years, Vahid has had the privilege of working with distinguished 

institutions such as Transparency International in Washington, DC, and the World Economic Forum in Davos. He has a Masters degree 

from Johns Hopkins University (SAIS) in Washington, DC, and a BA from McGill University, Canada. He is the proud father of two 

young boys, Cyrus and Luca, who are a constant reminder to him of how important his job is in helping make this world a more sustainable 

place.

 

 

 

GREGORY FOX

 

 

Gregory Fox is an Australian doctor specializing in respiratory medicine, and is a Clinical Associate Lecturer with the 

University of Sydney. He has also previously undertaken clinical research in East Timor. Greg was co-founder of two 

international health groups in Sydney that encourage young doctors to apply their training to the benefit of the global 

poor.  He  has  a  strong  interest  in  medical  education,  and  for  a  number  of  years,  served  on  peak  organizations 

implementing  post-graduate  medical  training  reform.  He  has  a  Masters  degree  in  international  public  health.  He  is 

currently pursuing a PhD through the University of Sydney and research into tuberculosis and lung disease in Vietnam. 

He is a part of the 'Hoc Mai' medical partnership between Hanoi Medical University and the University of

GAN SU-LIN

 

 

 

Gan Su-lin has led Republic Polytechnic's (RP) Centre for Culture and Communication since 2004, and concurrently 

served as the Founding Director of the School of Technology for the Arts from January 2005 to October 2007. Prior 

to  RP,  she  was  a  tenured  professor  at  Nanyang  Technological  University's  School  of  Communication  and 

Information,  serving  as  Sub-Dean  from  2001-2003.  A  media  psychologist  by  academic  training,  Su-Lin  gained 

professional  experience  in  journalism  and  public  relations  through  work  in  Singapore,  Brunei,  London,  and  the 

United States, including at CNN. Since returning to Singapore in 1996, she has become a familiar face in Singapore's 

youth development scene. Her public service appointments include the National Youth Council and the North West 

Community Development Council. Her vision for youths is “Heads that understand,

 

 

Hearts that empathize, Hands that freely give.” Two values most often manifest in her youth development work are a definition of wealth 

that extends far beyond material possessions, and the belief that “hang hang chu zhuang yuan” (Mandarin for "every field of work can 

produce a top scholar"). In 2006, in recognition of her community contributions, Su-Lin was awarded the Public Service Medal by the 

President of Singapore.

 

 

JARED GENSER

 

 

Jared  Genser  is a partner  in the  government  affairs  group  of  DLA Piper  LLP  and  President  of  Freedom  Now 

(www.freedom-now.org), an NGO that works to free prisoners of conscience worldwide. He previously taught a 

semester-long seminar on the UN Security Council at the University of Pennsylvania and University of Michigan 

law schools. His human rights clients have included Nobel Peace Prize Laureates Aung San Suu Kyi, Desmond 

Tutu, and Elie Wiesel. Previously, Jared was a management consultant with McKinsey & Company. Jared holds 

a BS from Cornell University, an MPP from Harvard University's John F. Kennedy School of Government, and 

a JD from the University of Michigan.

 

 

 

 

 

JANES IMANUEL GINTING

 

 

Janes Imanuel Ginting is the Strategy Management Director at World Vision Indonesia, an international Christian relief, development and 

advocacy organization. World Vision is dedicated to working with children, families and communities regardless of religion, race, ethnicity 

or gender to overcome poverty and injustice. Previously, he worked as community development coordinator and then project manager of 

World Vision's projects in Eastern Indonesia focusing on basic education, health and economic development programs. He then worked 

as National Program Officer overseeing nine World Vision's development projects across Indonesia. He worked as Junior Poverty Analyst 

at the World Bank Office Jakarta and with his team, provided substantial inputs to the Government of Indonesia in the development of 

National  Poverty  Reduction  Strategy  Paper  and  Medium  Term  Development  Program.  At  the  World  Bank  he  also  led  some  social 

researches on the immediate impact of decentralization in increasing the poor people access to public services. In 2005, he joined the Asia 

Foundation as the Program Officer supporting some 19 local and national Civil Society Organizations in advocating pro poor policies in 

three provinces in Indonesia. In 2006, he moved to the Australian Agency for International Development (AusAID) and administered the 

design and implementation process of AusAID's HIV and AIDS and Maternal and Neonatal Health Programs in Indonesia. In March 2009, 

he returned to World Vision Indonesia. At his current role, he is responsible to facilitate the strategic integration of World Vision's Programs 

to  leverage  its  program's  impacts  in  nine  provinces,  40  districts  across  Indonesia  with  95,000  children  as  direct  beneficiaries.  Janes 

graduated from Bogor Agricultural University (majoring in Agribusiness). As a Chevening Scholar, he received his Masters degree from 

the London School of Economics in Social Policy and Planning in Developing Countries.

 

 

 

JAIME ENRIQUE Y. GONZALEZ

 

 

Jaime  Enrique  Y.  Gonzalez  is  President  and  CEO  of  IPVG  Corporation,  a  publicly  listed  company  on  the 

Philippine  Stock  Exchange  (PSE:  IP)  engaged  in  information  technology  and  communications.  He  directly 

handles all investment-related activities of IPVG including fund-raising, mergers & acquisitions, and exit. Jaime 

has  been  intimately  involved  in  the  start-up  process  of  all  business  units,  and  responsible  for  working  with 

business unit heads in meeting or exceeding operating targets. He holds a successful track record in the internet 

space;  having  founded  a  series  of  internet  start-ups  that  have  been  acquired  by  larger  US-based  firms 

(match.ph/itzamatch.com) and has taken IPVG from garage to public. Among Jaime’s recently concluded deals 

are a US$22M BPO Venture inked by IPVG and PCCW in August 2009, a major Investment Agreement with

 

 

UK-based  Global  Emerging  Markets  (GEM)  group  for  IPVG  to  raise  PhP300M  from  GEM,  a  US$18M  fund  raising  program  from 

institutional investors such as ING, BDO, RCBC Capital, Abacus Securities and Philippine  Star, and acquisitions of Influent, one of the 

top 15 call center companies in the US, and Prolexic Technologies, a leader in Distributed Denial of Service (DDOS) mitigation services 

in the world. Jaime is also Deputy Chairman of IP Foundation (IPF), IPVG's corporate social responsibility arm (CSR) formed in June

RYAN CAMADO GUINARAN

 

 

Ryan Camado Guinaran is the Local Reform Implementation Coordinator of Mountain Provinces for Formula One 

for Health. He is a medical doctor and consultant for the European Commission Technical Assistance to the Health 

Sector Policy Support Program in the Philippines. He is a researcher and author and has published articles on varied 

topics both technical and literary. Ryan was a university instructor and sits as a member of the Regional Quality 

Assessment Team of the Commission on Higher Education. He is founding executive director of NGOs focusing 

on culture and indigenous health and has led national, regional and local youth groups involved in youth formation, 

leadership and social responsibility, research and documentation, and socio-civic programs. As an artist, he does 

poetry, drawings and short documentaries on Cordillera history and traditions. Ryan is also

 

 

President of the Cordillera Indigenous Peoples Historical Society.

 

 

 

ASHISH GUMASHTA

 

 

Ashish Gumashta is a Managing Director – Investments at DSP Merrill Lynch. With 16 years of experience in the 

wealth management business, Ashish has been a founder member of the Global Private Client business at DSP 

Merrill Lynch; and is also a part of the Merrill Lynch ‘Circle of Champions’ a title assigned to only the most 

outperforming  Advisors  of  Merrill  Lynch  from  across the  world.  Recently,  Ashish  also  won  the  David  Brady 

Award, which honors employees who consistently go beyond expectations as they embody the company’s core 

values of client service and dedication. Ashish graduated from the Mumbai University and holds a Masters in 

Business Administration.

 

 

 

 

TAMAO GUNN

 

 

 

Tamao Gunn is a Managing Director at Bank of America Merrill Lynch. For the last 10 years, she has worked in 

the investment banking division covering Japanese financial institutions including Japanese mega banks. She was 

an attorney in New York for Skadden Arps and Milbank Tweed, mainly focusing on corporate finance and project 

finance that originated in emerging markets. She has truly enjoyed investment banking work at Merrill Lynch as 

it has provided her with the opportunity to work on business origination in addition to transaction execution. In 

particular, the recent financial turmoil and the drastic change in the financial landscape globally via consolidation 

has been very interesting for her as a banker, and has given her the opportunity to reassess the importance of global 

financial stability and the role that Japanese financial institutions could play in this event.

 

 

She holds an LLB from Keio University and Sydney University and was admitted as an attorney in the state of New York and the state of 

New South Wales in Australia.

 

 

DENNIS GUPA

 

 

Dennis Gupa is a stage director at the University of the Philippines Los Banos. He helped establish the theatre 

group Teatrong Sikap, affiliated with Sibikong Kabataang Pinoy, Inc. (SIKAP), a non-government organization 

that he encountered while in high school. During a period of church missionary training in Mindanao, Dennis 

led children’s workshops and performed among tribal community groups. Subsequently, he returned to SIKAP 

as a full-time volunteer staff. He directed many small shows for Teatrong Sikap and created performances that 

aimed at teaching high school students about nationhood. The group performed in

 

 

churches, schools, drug-rehabilitation centers, centers for sexually abused children and juvenile delinquents. In 2003, he collaborated with 

different artists and theatre scholars to implement a project called, "Telon-telong Makabayan: Teatro sa Edukasyong Pagkamakabayan." 

This received a $1 million grant from the first World Bank's Panibagong Paraan, and in the same year, SIKAP was endowed with the 

Quezon  City  Most  Outstanding  Organization  Award  for  Community  Service.  Dennis  studied  Broadcasting  Communication  at  the 

Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP) and received his MA in Theatre Arts from the University of the Philippines-Diliman.

 

 

 

AMRIT GURUNG

 

 

Amrit  Gurung  is  a  poet,  musician,  singer,  photographer,  filmmaker  and  traveler,  and  one  of  Nepal's  most 

recognized faces. His art reflects his strong beliefs  about protecting peace, justice and nature. Amrit is the man 

behind  Nepal's  foremost  folk  rock  band,  Nepathya,  and  is  a  role  model  for  Nepal's  young  adults.  He  uses  the 

medium  of  music  and  photography  to  spread  his  message  of  peace  directly  to  the  people.  He  is  a  compulsive 

traveler and has trekked across 70 of Nepal's 75 districts, collecting folk lyrics and music. Amrit took his peace

concerts around Nepal, while the country was at war.
