After about 20 minutes passed, the teacher 
then shared and distributed a feedback 
form to the student and also gave me one. 
He explained to the students that he wanted 
them to work in pairs. “Okay, now 
everybody has got the feedback form, right? 
I want you to work with your friend and 
exchange your essay. Try to assess and give 
feedback on your friend’s essay. 
The students worked with their friends, but 
not all of them were seriously did the task 
their teacher give. Some of them were 
texting on their phone, or even open their 
facebook on the phone. The teacher didn’t 
notice this, since he just stood up in front of 
the class, and sometimes drank his coffee. 
The feedback’s form consisted of some 
questions related to the essay, such as, what 
is the thesis statement? Does it include the 
topic, focus, and main points? How the 
essay is organized? Does the introduction 
follow one of the type we discussed in the 
class. Does each paragraph support the 
thesis of the essay? Is it unified? Are the 
paragraphs well developed? Is the essay 
well developed? How could the writer 
improve this essay? And etc. The teacher 
reminded the students to be honest and 
critical while assessing their friend’s 
writing. “Please, be honest and critical guys, 
tell or ask your friend and clarify 
everything you don’t understand.
The teacher gave almost about 20 minutes 
for the students to work on this task. While 
the students were working, he wrote the 
note below: 
Monday: New type/style of essay (Topic + 
pre-writing 
Tuesday: 1
st
draft (in lab), finishing draft 
Thursday: Special topic/peer review 
Friday: Final draft, finishing final draft 
Monday: Due time, submit on Blackboard
This is interesting that the teacher tried to 
collaborate the students by asking them to 
work with their classmates. He also asked 
them to have peers assessment.
I think this was not good, since the teacher did 
not try to check his students whether they 
were seriously did the task or not. I also think 
that the class has a rule on using the phone in 
the class, but he didn’t control and notice this 
problem. 
The teacher had clear instruction and direction 
on what he wanted the students to do in the 
class, but unfortunately he didn’t follow up 
with the action. He should actually went 
around the class to check or help the students
perhaps they need help or at least to check 
whether they did the task seriously or not. 
I think he gave to long time for the students to 
work, and I noticed that it wasn’t too effective, 
since some students sometime just talk about 
another things, even they spoke using their 
first language with their friends from the same 
cultural background. Some students were 
playing with their phones.
