Suffixes -able and -ible Eat -eatable Comport-comfortable Prefer - preferable Drink-drinkable I thought this subject matter was beneficial for learners since it allows them to expand their lexical resources while also enhancing their vocabulary. According to the morphological method, a new word is produced when a derivational morpheme is added to an existing stream. The process of deprivation is what this is. According to Payne (2011), the inflectional process happens when a morpheme is added to the root, but it does not give rise to a new meaning. Here, we are creating an adjective from a verb by prefixing it with the -able and -ible suffixes. When pupils encounter a word with the endings -able or -ible, they recognize it is an adjective. Topic 3 Types of morphemes Morphology is one of the main branches in linguistics that studies the formation of the word. The unit of the study of linguistic morphology is the word, the form of which is understood as a structure consisting of elements called morphemes or complexes of morphemes. So, this topic can help learners to understand the word formation. And they can learn how to create new words by using suffixes and prefixes. Types of morphemes Free root Bound root Free morphemes Bound morphemes Free morphemes are independent morphemes that can give a full meaning without any additions, like prefixes and suffixes. For instance: girl, friend, learn, lady, money and etc. Free root morphemes can be utilized without any attachment of other morphemes, like run, phone. A bound morpheme is those which cannot occur alone, including suffixes and prefixes. All morphemes are affixes. Affixes are used to change the meaning of the words by attaching various types of words. Bound morphemes attach to free morphemes to form new words, often with new meanings. For example: -er (teacher), -ish (childish), in-(include). Download 33.97 Kb. Do'stlaringiz bilan baham: |
