Procedure of the lesson:


I. Organizing moment: Motivation, Greeting, checking attendance, season, weather, checking the preparation for the lesson.
- Check for homework given on past lesson.
- Ask pupils all new words learnt on previous lesson.
II. Warmer
Review animals from Level 1 – say the animal, then students mime and make the appropriate noise. Stick the flashcards from Level 1 Unit 8 on the board, if available, or write the animal names. Point to each animal and ask Is it a pet? Students answer Yes, it is for snake, bird, and spider.
III. Presentation
• Explain that students are going to learn words for more pets and also words for people.
• Hold up each flashcard and say the new word. Students repeat in chorus and individually. Then show the flashcards in random order. Students say the words.
• Show the pet flashcards and encourage students to say the word and then mime/make the appropriate noise for each animal.
IV. Pre-activity
1. Listen. Who’s speaking?
• Say Open your books to page 26, please. Ask Can you see Olivia, Tina, David, and Ben? Students point to the children’s backs. Ask Where are they? (At a pet show.) Point to the sign in the picture and confirm the meaning. Ask students if they have ever been to a pet show.
• Say Let’s listen to the children. Who’s speaking? Play the recording. Students listen and point to the character they think is speaking each line (Tina, David, Ben, or Olivia). Then play again, pausing for students to point to the people and pets in the picture as they hear the characters mention them.
• If time, ask about the items in the background of the picture: What transportation can you see? (A bus, a plane.) What color’s the bus? (It’s red.)
2. Listen, point, and say.
• Say Now listen, point, and say. Play the recording. Students listen and point to the numbered items in the picture as they hear them mentioned. Then play again. Students listen and say the words.
3. Listen and find.
• Say Now listen and find. Play the recording, pausing for students to find and point to the correct animals/people in the picture, as they hear them mentioned. Students can also say the correct number.
• If you have time, students can then do a similar activity in pairs. One says a sentence, e.g., It’s a cat, and the other says the number or points to the animal/person in the picture.
Key: Students point to the items in the following order: 1, 4, 2, 6, 3, 8, 7, 5, 9, 10.

4. Find Leo.
• Say Now find Leo. Students search for Leo in the picture and raise their hands when they find him. (He’s in Tina’s bag.)
V. Workbook page 20
1. Order the letters and match.
• Students solve the anagrams and write the words. Then they match each person with their pet by drawing lines.
Key: 2) c girl, dog 3) b woman, fish 4) a boy, mouse
2 What’s next? Look and circle the word.
• Students look at the pictures and circle the correct word in each pair.
Key: 2) frog, 3) baby, 4) dog.

VI. Ending the lesson


Stick the flashcards man, woman, girl, boy, and baby on the board in a column. Stick a pet flashcard next to each person flashcard (e.g., frog next to man). Point to one pair of flashcards, name the person, and make a sentence,
e.g., Man. He has a frog. Say the name of another person on the board and choose a volunteer to make a sentence about his/her pet. Repeat for the other people. Then swap the pets around and ask different students.
VII. Evaluation. Marking pupils according to their attendance.
