Brunette Latin (1220-1294), a lawyer, was an author of «The book of Treasure» written in French. It was one of the most popular encyclopedias of the Middle Ages, which gives information about History, Ethics, Politics, Natural Sciences and Bible.
The translation activity of Latin was conductive to further development of Italian prose and language. He did not use word for word translation, but tried to find correct rendering of the words. Latin gave a possibility to compare Latin and Vulgar languages in his works.
Bonn Jambony, a contemporary of Brunette Latin, was also a lawyer. He was the first who translated Brunette Latin’s «The book of Treasure». Bonn Jambony was a skillful translator. His language was quite clear. Among his translations there are Paul Orocious’s «The history», Martin de Brag’s «Formula of the honest life», Phlaviuos Vegeciy’s «Art of war».
Aristip Palermo translated Plato’s works «Phedon» and «Menon» into Latin. He also translated Ptolomey’s work from Arabian into Latin. The translation had spread widely and influenced on the formation of the medieval astronomic system. There were other translators too who translated Avicena, Aristotle’s works.
From the XIII century Spain had its own poetry. Pedro Alphoncy in the XIII century translated Arabic and Indian fairy tales. That book was named «Teaching book of cleric». It was the first collection of novels in the medieval Europe. The book was a success in Europe and was translated into many European languages.
Gerard Cremon was a famous translator of Toledo school. He was an Italian and worked a lot over the translations. He translated nearly 100 books. Gerard Cremon headed a group of translators. They mostly translated literature on Medicine, Astronomy, Philosophy and other fields of science.
According to scientific research, Spanish language was gradually changing. It bore more Arabic words and syntactic wholes.
King Alfonso (1226-1284) was also busy with translations. In his reign Spanish prose was appeared. He invited many translators, sculptures, architects and scientists. «The first General Chronicle» and «General History» were created with the help of the king. In the XIII century «Kalila and Dimna», «Harlem and Ioasaf», «Syndbadnama» were translated.
