one activity. Below, there is one activity with its original and modified version which is support by
the opinions of prominent applied linguists.
Original Activity " Crisps challenge"( by Saodat Tadjibayeva)
Skills: Students can revise previous topics and also improve their speaking skills.
Materials: An empty crisps pocket, questions written on slips, tape recorder.
Procedure:
•
Every student stands up.
•
The teacher plays the music and the students dance.
•
while dancing they pass the pocket to each other.
•
The teacher pauses the music, the student who holds the pocket takes a question and answer
it, and the process goes on until the pocket becomes empty.
Description of the modified version. The modified name: "Cunning crisps packet" Time of the
activity: 20-25 minutes
Objectives:
•
Students will be able to develop speaking skills by answering the questions individually.
•
Students will be able to enhance reading comprehension by reading the text and
reconstructing its missed or incorrect parts.
•
Students will be able to improve listening skills especially listening for specific data.
•
Students will be able to enjoy and enrich general knowledge through the information in the
reading text.
Age: from 16 to older ages.
Level: intermediate and advanced.
Content of specification: General English.
Skills: reading, listening and speaking.
Applied methods: Communicative language teaching, Direct Method and Audio Lingual
Method.
Teacher’s instructions:
•
Prepare a text and copy it to be available for all students in the class.
•
Distribute the reading texts to students.
•
Give students 5-6 minutes to read the text individually.
•
Play the recorder to give a chance to students to listen to the audio of the text that they have
just read.
•
Tell the students that they need to correct the wrong points of the text and reconstruct the
missing points as well.
•
Prepare questions related to the reading text on slips of paper like crisps and place them into
the empty crisps pocket.
•
Tell the students to stand up, give the packet to the first students in the row.
•
Play the music, tell the students to dance and pass the packet to each other
•
Pause the music while they are dancing and tell the student who holds the packet to take a
crisp out of the packet.
•
Ask him or her to answer the question.
•
Give a “well done” sticker if he/she can give the right answer.
•
Continue the activity in this manner.
