2.2. Contract extension for students lacking performance records
If the student does not acquire all necessary performance records within the
contract duration agreed upon on page 1, the contract can be extended by one
semester by applying for it in written form. If the student does not submit his/her
application on time, he/she will be de-registered from their studies once the
contract period expires.
IU can reject requests for extensions in justified cases, as it sees fit.
To extend the contract duration (subject to a charge) according to this section,
course fees have to be paid in return for the further use of the equipment and
o ers from IU.
2.3. Regular termination of contract
The contract may be terminated with six weeks' notice for the first time at the
end of the first six months. A er the end of the first six months, the contract can
be terminated at any time with three months' notice to the end of a full month in
relation to the start of the contract. Notice of termination must be given in written
form (e.g. by request for termination in CARE or by email).
2.4. Immediate termination of contract
The right to an immediate termination of the contract for a reasonable cause
remains una ected. Important, justified causes for the student to qualify for
immediate termination particularly include life-threatening illnesses or the death
of a student. A change in the study programme, relocation, failed exams, financial
or family reasons are not justified causes for immediate termination. If, a er
conclusion of the contract, admission to the program lapses, is revoked, or is
withdrawn, the student may terminate the contract within two weeks without
observing a notice period. Justified causes for IU to qualify for immediate
termination particularly include outstanding tuition fees that amount to the
equivalent of 3 monthly rates, breaches against IUʼs examination rules, a studentʼs
criminal actions at the expense of IU, or, if it is foreseeable, that a necessary
(re)accreditation or admission of the study programme is not granted.
