INTRODUCTION

Today, in the condition of globalization, the role of knowledge and learning in the process of historical and social development of people all over the world is very acute today as ever before. The prove of this idea can be seen in our Republic, when we are in the transition period, and the need for highly experienced and intellectual specialists is becoming very crucial. English has become the international language of the world community today. Different international organizations hold their meetings in English. English is also the language of international commerce.

As it is widely effective learning of a foreign language cannot be imagined without the literature and literary works created in this language. Examples of literary works carry all the specific features of language and all the rules of grammatical and lexical constructions can be found in them. In our case we cannot imagine English without works of Shakespeare, Chaucer, Byron, Hemingway, Shelley, Irving, Franklin, Doyle, Poe and so many others.
Traditions and morality of the nation can also be found in Literature. And by learning literary works s we can get some very valuable information not only on literary and linguistic phenomena but also historical, cultural, traditional, spiritual and moral lessons.
The actuality of the theme. The literary activity of Edgar Allan Poe has been widely researched throughout the world by different scholars. His works were also translated into many languages and were screened a lot of times. As one of the most popular pieces of American literature his novels, stories and poems consider special attention. Besides, Poe is considered to be one of the most literary critics in the American literature. All his works also carry bright examples of the usage of the English literature, and thus can be regarded as very good sources of authentic material for language learners.
The aim of the work is to learn the literary activity and legacy of the writer, to analyze his works and social ideas explained in them and to give some transparency to the usage of fictional means in the works of the writer. Special attention is paid to the learning of the poem “Tamerlane”. The achievement of the aim determines the following tasks:
