Information about the UK.

Although the UK is now in the background, it is still one of the most important countries in the world. When we hear the phrase “UK,” the first thing that comes to mind is the Beatles, Harry Potter, James Bond, and chips. We have collected 12 interesting facts about the history, culture and lifestyle of this wonderful country.

1. Not only England Surprisingly, not everyone knows that the UK and England are not the same name. The United Kingdom is a unitary state that unites 4 states at once: Scotland, England, Wales and Northern Ireland.
2. Counter-movement It is in England that left-wing movement began and still exists.
3. The most common name The most common name in the UK is John Smith. According to the simplest estimates, the number of people with such a name and surname exceeds 300 thousand
4. Foxes There are almost no feline cats and dogs in London, but there are foxes. These animals live by eating garbage in many city parks. Encountering this animal does not lead to good results: foxes are carriers of rabies. Often these animals enter apartments and houses in search of food.
5. British cuisine
This place does not differ in the variety and complexity of dishes. The main products of British cuisine are meat, bread and potatoes. Probably for this reason, the percentage of obese people among the population of this country is very high. British cuisine is one of the most tasteless cuisines. It is very simple, but fortunately, the food from the colonial countries has enriched the list of traditional dishes. For example, young Englishmen believe that the usual dishes of Indian or Chinese cuisine belong to British cuisine. Interesting fact: the most famous chefs and leading representatives of culinary programs - Jamie Oliver and Gordon Ramsay were born and live in the UK.
6. The Queen has no passport and no real sovereignty. It has been centuries since the British Crown appeared, but now it has lost its former value. No, the princess only travels with delegations and attends important events. It can also issue passports, appoint ministers, drive a car without a license, and even declare war. In the latter case, however, the prime minister may not allow it. The Queen of Great Britain does not have a passport as this document is issued on behalf of the monarch. By the way, this does not apply to the rest of the royal family - they have passports.
7. The first subway
The first 6-kilometer metro was opened in 1863 in London.
8. The shortest flight is between Vestra and Pope Vestra in Scotland in just 1 minute 14 seconds.
9. The main slogan of the Romans to London The Roman invaders founded the city in 43 BC. They named the city Londinium de.
10. Compulsory school education Private schools are called public schools and free schools are called public schools. But school uniforms are required everywhere. Absenteeism is severely punished until parents are prosecuted. Children attend school between the ages of 5 and 16. But you need two more years to get into college. By the way, corporal punishment was used in public schools. This practice continued in private schools.
11. Hardened Britons The climate in the UK is not harsh. The temperature there rarely drops below zero. Due to the high humidity, the zero temperature is felt as low as -10 degrees. However, it is not uncommon for children to be dressed in layers. The heating system is often not turned on in order to save money, so the British are very resistant to cold.
12. Britons love tea It is estimated that 165 million cups of tea are consumed per day in the UK.
