The article analyzes the religious and sufistical works of Alisher Navoi, their sources and the

importance of these works in the formation of human spirituality.

Introduction

Davlatshoh Samarkandi did not justify Alisher Navoi as “Mir Nizamiddin”, that is, “the charter and

the law of religion”. The fact that all the works of the thinker, especially in the preface of the

“Khamsa” poems, praise Allah, The Prophet’s Compassion and the laudation of the Prophet fully

supports this point.

We are once again convinced that Alisher Navoi is a deep scholar and theorist of Sharia and Sufism

in such works as “Arba’in” (“Forty Hadith”), “Waqfiya” , “Nazmu-l-javahir”, “Siraju-l-muslimin”

(“Muslim light”), “Munajat” , “Risalayi tiyr andohtan”, “Nasayimul-muhabbat”, which will be

considered below.

The total volume of the work “Arba’in” (“Forty Hadiths”), which is a poetic translation of

hadiths, is 108 couplets.

Navai’s master Abdurahman Jami says that he selected 40 of the authentic hadiths and created

“Arba’in” in Farsi, but the Turkic reader was free of these springs and translated these 40 hadiths

into his Turkic language with the permission of his master.

He presents the Prophet’s hadiths in Arabic first and completes his translation in poetry.

The main part of the work begins with in Navai style interpretation of the well-known hadith, “None

of you can truly be a believer until you see what he sees fit for himself”:

Mo ’ min ermastur ,  ulki iymondin

Ro ’ zgorida yuz safo ko ’ rgay .

Tokki qardoshiga ravo ko ’ rmas –

Harnekimo’zigaravoko’rgay. [1.582]

Main part

In short, Arba’in’s work serves to enhance man’s spirituality. In this regard, Navai expresses his

opinion in the closing part of the work:

Erur ul arba ’ inning avvali hol ,
