much more important. In these positions, much of your time
will be spent analyzing budgets, justifying costs, determining
prices, things like that. The need for more secure comprehen-
sive accounting knowledge grows as you take on jobs of greater
complexity. This is why it’s such a smart move for you to start
developing your knowledge of accounting now.
While your own knowledge is deeply important, there should
be one other person you can rely upon. In the movie Schindler’s
List, the entrepreneur, Oskar Schindler, is trying to recognize the
contribution his accountant, Itzhak Stern, has made to the suc-
cess of his enterprise.
Schindler: My father was fond of saying you need three
things in life—a good doctor, a forgiving priest, and a
clever accountant. The first two, I’ve never had much use
for them. But the third .... (He raises his glass to recog-
nize Stern.) Ahhh.
