TASHKENT

Tashkent is the capital of Uzbekistan. It was founded more than 2000 years ago. Tashkent is situated in the valley of the Chirchik river.
Tashkent is a political, cultural, industrial and educational centre of Central Asia.
In 1966 the earthquake took place in Tashkent. But the people did not falter. Thanks to the help of all the republics they built up new Tashkent – the city of modern houses and beautiful streets.
There are 19 Institutes, 5 Universities, the Academy of Sciences and a lot of research institutes in Tashkent. Many theatres, museums, parks, squares, cinemas, libraries there.
It has also separate monuments of the ancient culture and architecture. The most famous of them are Kukeldash Madrasah and Barakhana Madrasah erected in the 16^th century.
There are many industrial enterprises such as: the V. P. Chkalov Aircraft – Building Industrial Association, Tashselmash, Uzbekselmash, Tashtextilmash Plants and others.
The pride of citizens is the metro.
A lot of embassies and offices of many international organizations, companies and firms have opened in the city. It has become a tradition to hold film festivals of Asian, African and Latin American cinema in Tashkent.
