Abstract: World map shows how close India is to Central Asia. The two regions are
geographically and historically connected, strategically linked. In this paper we will analyze
bilateral and multilateral relations among countries of both regions, especially the role of
India, Pakistan and Afghanistan to Central Asia. Interconnectivity between these regions
proves the increasing importance of regional cooperation in various areas from economy to

regions stem from ancient times. During the Kushan period and for centuries thereafter
Termez was a major center of Buddhism. Way back in the 11th century, the great
encyclopediatist, Abu Rayhon al-
Beruni, traveled from Khiva to India and his book “Kitab-
Tahkik Al-
Hind” is still highly valued. Socio-cultural relations further expanded during the
dynasty of Baburid Empire.
South Asia (Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Nepal, Maldives, Pakistan, and
Sri-Lanka) is of great strategic importance for Central Asian countries and World Politics
itself with almost 25 % of World population (nearly 2 billion people)[1] and a territory of 4.5
million km2. In turn, Central Asia, with almost 77 million populations, and the area of 4 million
