Potentially useful supplementary materials
Wherever possible teachers should try to use authentic materials. The following published sources may also be useful. Teachers will need to set aside time to identify and adapt authentic materials for use in class. General safety regulations. Introduction. Safety is one of the most important components in the production facilities, plants and other workshops. There are many potential dangers in the agricultural industry from machines and equipment. It is important that agrarians recognize dangers and know how to deal with them. This module contributes to the language that students need to do this. Module aims. The aims are this module are to help students to understand the general safety and precaution regulations in the field of agriculture. They will achieve that by reading operating manuals, instructions, safety instructions, job descriptions, profiles, warning labels; by practicing the avoidance of technical issues and by following safety procedures. Specific goals (according to the can-do statement) Module objectives. By the end of the module students will be able to: give instructions and warnings, e.g. operating instructions, safety procedures listen to instructions and warnings, e.g. safety procedures, operating instructions read operating manuals, instructions, safety instructions, warning labels give descriptions and explanations of equipment, processes, machines, (e.g. speaking to foreign visitors) obey the safety rules act correctly in case of emergency situations; make first aids in case of accidents; use of fire-extinguishing equipment; proper use of electrical appliance and chemical matters. Text types. It is the teacher’s responsibility to find texts that relate to the above- mentioned language skills.
