Case № 11 I Formulation of the case-task Set expression and their classifications
Set expressions are one of the sources of vocabulary enlargement and enrichment. It is the most colourful part of vocabulary system. It reflects the history of the nation, the customs and traditions of the people speaking the language. Phraseology forms a special subsystem in the vocabulary system. This subsystem is called differently in linguistics: phraseological units, phraseologisms, set expressions, idioms. Set expressions are not modeled according to regular linguistic patterns, they are reproduced ready-made units. Each phraseological unit represents a word group with a unique combination of components, which make up a single specific meaning.
II Try to find out the solutions of the following problems:
1.Give a full description of set expressions of the English language on the basis of the given brief information. Make use of the tables, schemes, diagrams etc.
2.Speak about different approaches to the problem phraseology in linguistics.
3.Speak about different classifications of set expressions. Give examples.

III A) Analyze the structure of the following phraseological units. Give their Russian or Kazakh equivalents and memorize them:
1. Can the leopard change his spot? 2. to cut one’s coat according to one’s cloth. 3. A skeleton in the cupboard. 4. to build the castles in the air. 5. to take the bull by the horns. 6. A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush.
