Case № 13
Formulation of the case-task: Grammatical classes of words. Parts of Speech
The words of language, depending on various formal and semantic features, are divided into grammatically relevant sets or classes called parts of speech. They differ from other types in some grammatical points. For example, the verb is a type of word different from all other types in that it alone has the grammatical category of tense. Since the word is distinguished not only by grammatical, but also by semantico-lexemic properties, some scholars refer to parts of speech as "lexico-grammatical" series of words, or as “lexico-grammatical categories”.
Parts of speech are lexico-grammatical classes of words differentiated from each other by: a) a generalized, categorical meaning, i.e. semantically b) specific inflectional and derivational features, i.e. morphologically c) syntactic function in a sentence, i.e. syntactically.
