SUBJECT MATTER CONTENT
(shows good command and knowledge of subject matter; demonstrates breadth and depth of mastery)
The students were going over important areas for the road test that included hill parking, three-point turns, vehicle controls like windshield wipers and defrost, as well as backing up and lane changes. These were reinforced as the areas that are most commonly missed on the road test.
ORGANIZATION
(organizes subject matter; evidences preparation; is thorough; states clear objectives; emphasizes and summarizes main points, meets class at scheduled time)
Obstructor had the students mimic backing behaviors in their seat, which helps them visualize the backing out process that can be problematic. He also gave them some good ways to remember hill parking, “up, up, and away” from the curb and “down, down towards the nearest grass or ground.”
He also reviewed some car controls on both newer models and older models in case they take the road test in a car that they aren’t totally familiar or comfortable with.
RAPPORT
(holds interest of students; is respectful, fair, and impartial; provides feedback, encourages participation; interacts with students, shows enthusiasm)
The teacher had a great rapport with the students and often used humor and personal experience to relay materials to the students. Together, they seemed to be engaged in the learning together and striving toward a common goal: passing the road test for their license.
