Activity 9: Jazz Chant—I Can Play Basketball
Ask Mentees to open their Workbooks to Handout: I Can Play Basketball.
Practice the jazz chant as a group.
Divide the Mentees into 2 groups, A & B.
As will read A and B’s will read B.
Switch roles and repeat the jazz chant.
Ask Mentees if the sports in the jazz chant are common in Uzbekistan.
Ask Mentees what sports are common in Uzbekistan.
Change the sports in the chant to common Uzbek sports.
Do the chant one more time with the new sports.
Transition: Just like we changed the sports in the chant to meet the interests of our students, sometimes we need to adapt and extend textbook activities to meet the needs of our learners. Let’s see how we can do that.
