This lesson plan aims to introduce students to the traditions of English-speaking countries. The lesson is designed for students in middle school, but can easily be adapted for high school or adult learners.

The lesson begins with a brainstorming activity, asking students to name some English-speaking countries and their associated traditions. This will help activate prior knowledge and get students thinking about the topic at hand.

Next, the teacher will present an overview of the traditions of several English-speaking countries, including the United Kingdom, United States, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand. This will include holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving, as well as cultural practices like afternoon tea in the UK or rodeos in the US.

Students will then work in pairs or small groups to research a specific tradition from one of these countries. They will create a presentation or poster board that includes information on the history and significance of the tradition, as well as any associated food or decorations. After presenting their findings to the class, students will have a chance to reflect on what they learned about other cultures and how these traditions compare to their own. This can be done through a class discussion or written reflection prompts..

2.2 EXERCISES, ACTIVITIES, GAMES
In the middle of the lesson students will participate in an activity that allows them to experience one of these traditions firsthand. This could involve making traditional foods such as scones or pancakes, playing traditional games like cricket or baseball, or creating holiday decorations like wreaths or ornaments.
Overall, this lesson plan provides an engaging and interactive way for students to learn about the diverse cultures and traditions of English-speaking countries. It encourages research skills, critical thinking, and cultural awareness while also providing an opportunity for hands-on learning.
  1. Cook food from different countries

This is a fun way to learn about the cuisine of different cultures as well as their customs and traditions. Try recipes from different countries around the world and learn about different cooking methods used that may not be so commonly used locally.
You can have each person in your family pick different recipes to make so everyone in the family can be involved. Choose an entree, main, side dishes and desserts and put together an international feast to enjoy together.
Even in a single country, including your home country, you will often find traditional dishes that vary with different territories of the countries.
Food is a great way to give examples of different cultures around the world.
Here are some international recipes to get you inspired:

  • Main course recipes from around the world

  • Dessert recipes from around the world

  • Drink recipes from around the world

  • Christmas Desserts from around the world

WATCH DOCUMENTARIES OR MOVIES ABOUT OTHER CULTURES

There are endless options for documentaries, vlogs and films that explore different cultures around the world.
There is something to suit every age group, depending on whether you want to teach your kids about the world and other cultures, or if you want something the whole family can learn from.
This is a great way for kids to see how people in other parts of the world live and what their traditions involve.
You can choose a fictional film or television program that inspires you to learn about a place or culture or go for something more educational such as a documentary, virtual tour or series instead.
Travel vlogs on YouTube can also be a great way to learn about other parts of the world. You can check out  YouTube channel.
