IV. Инглиз тилида “қулоқ” семантик майдони конституентларини феъл сўз туркуми билан ифодаланиши. a) феъл- ear (=audience), to hear (of, about), to listen (to), ear (=cultivate).
б) феълли фразеологик бирикмалар – (one) can`t believe one`s ears (= one is shocked by what one has heard); (not) believe one`s ears (= to trust or have faith in smth that one has heard); bend one`s ears (= talk about a matter at tedious length; monopolize smb`s attention); (go) blow it out one`s ear (= leave me alone!); box one`s ears (= to hit smb); give smb a box on the ears (= hit smb with your hand on the side of their head as a punishment); can do smth on one`s ears (= slang. Can do or complete smth effortlessly); cock one`s ear (= to listen intently); come to/reach smb`s ears (= to be heard by one eventually); get ears (= to have one`s) interest or attention); get/give smb a thick ear (= to be disciplined by being hit); give (one`s) ear to smb/smth (= to listen carefully); incline (one`s) ear (= to listen intently); lower (one`s) ears (= to get a haircut); pop-(one`s) ears (= to release pressure felt in one`s ears by doing certain actions); pound (one`s) ear (= to go to sleep); reach (one`s) ears (= to be heard by one eventually); stop-(one`s) ears (= to plug one`s hears to avoid hearing smth); talk (one`s) ear off (= to talk so much as to cause smb to be bored).
в) феъл+предлог+от+(предлог+от) – (be) grin(ning) from ear to ear (= to be smiling broadly and enthusiastically); bring smb about one`s ears (= to cause negative consequences for one); clip-over the ear (= a slap, smack or cuff on the side of the head); close/shut one`s ears to smb or smth (= to willfully ignore or refuse to listen to smth or what smb is saying); (have smth) coming out of one`s ears (= occurring or present in a great amount or abundance); (do not) hang noodles on my ears (= (do not) try to mislead me or fool me); lend (one`s) (smb) ear to (smb/smth) (= to listen carefully); have (smb/smth) by the ears (= to have smb/smth fully under control or domination); have the right sow by the ear (= to see or comprehend a situation accurately); perk up-ears (= to become more or particularly alert); pin (back) one`s ears (back) (= to harshly reprimand one); play by (the) ears (= playing a piece of music without referencing sheet music or a recording); ring in (one`s) ears (= to still be vividly present in one`s mind or memory); send (one) away with a flea in (one`s) ear (= to turn one away forcefully or angrily); set smb by the ears (= to cause people to engage in a squabble); smile from ear to ear (= to have a broad enthusiastic smile).
г) oт + феъл – ears are burning (= be disconcerted by what one hears, especially when one is being talked about); ears are ringing (= to have a ringing sound because of an illness or other condition, very loud music, or some other very loud sound); ears are flapping (= smb is listening or trying to listen to the details of a private conversation); are your ears burning? (= a theoretical question addressed to smb who wasn`t present a conversation of which they were the subject).
д) феъл+сифат+(предлог)+от – be easy on the ear (= to have a pleasant and enjoyable sound); have big ears (= to listen in on a conversation that one is not a participant in); have half an ear on (= to listen to smb/smth intermittently); make a pig`s ear of smth (= to do a very poor job of smth).
e) феъл+олмош+предлог+от – be not much between the ears (= to be rather stupid, dull or dimwitted); have nothing between the ears (= to be rather stupid, dull or dimwitted),
ё) феъл+предлог+(олмош)+от– be out on (one`s) ear (= to have been removed from a place or situation); listen (to smb/smth) with half an ear (= to listen to smb/smth intermittently); prick up-(one`s) ears (= to pay sudden close attention to smth one overhears); pull in (one`s) ears (= to mind one`s own business); throw/toss out on (one`s) ear (= to eject, or dismiss one very abruptly).
ж) феъл+от (олмош)+феъл+предлог+сифат (олмош)+от– (can`t) make a silk purse out of a sow`s ear (= proverb. You cannot fashion smth beautiful or valuable out of poor materials); like trying to scratch your ear with your elbow (= extremely difficult).
з) феъл+(предлог)+сифат+от– fall/turn on deaf ears (= to be ignored); have a tin ear (= to lack musical ability; to be unable to recognize subtleties in languages); preach to deaf ears (= to attempt to persuade).
к) феъл+(олмош)+от+сифат+(предлог) – get/have one`s ears lowered (= to get a haircut); get one`s ears pinned back (= to be harshly reprimanded); get one`s ears set out (= to get a haircut).
л) феъл+от+предлог+от+(феъл+от) have a/the wolf by the ears (= to be involved with smb/smth); have an ear for smth(= to be particularly good at listening or repeating); have the ear of(smb)(= to have one`s interest or attention); hold a wolf by the ears (= to be in a difficult situation); pour honey into (one`s) ear (= to say smth that one would like to hear); put a bug in (one`s) ear (= to speak to one in order to impart some particular information); use one`s head for more than smth to keep-one`s ears apart (= to think in an intelligent, logical or clever manner).
м) феъл+от+(предлог) сифат – keep (one`s) ears open (= to remain alert in order to listen for smth); keep an ear out for smb/smth (= to be particularly attentive).
н) феъл+от+феъл – make (one`s) ears burn (= to make smb uncomfortable).
