Results VP S URVEYS During the VP surveys, birds were categorized into four groups which are based on threat status and sensitivity to wind turbine impacts. The following table summarizes the bird species recorded throughout all three seasons of VP surveys within each grouping of Tier 1 (most sensitive), 2, and Tier 3 (less sensitive). All other bird species were deemed least sensitive and although are recorded in data annexes, have not been summarized here. There was no indication of the number of reproductive units present in the survey area, however given the number of individuals recorded during the survey it is assumed that minimum reproductive unit thresholds are met. The Eastern Imperial Eagle recorded two individuals during seasonal VP surveys. Given that this species does not occur in high abundance within the project area, it is not considered that criticality would be triggered in the WF area. However, the Eastern Imperial Eagle is listed as Dzhankeldy 500MW Wind Farm ESIA Volume 2- Main Text, Tables & Figures 198 Vulnerable on the IUCN Red List and under Annex 1of the EU Bird Directive. As per EBRD PR6 GN6, this species satisfies the Criterion ii for Priority Biodiversity Feature for which impact mitigation shall be addressed. Although Steppe Eagle regularly occur in the project area, especially during the autumn migration period, it is not at abundances high enough to trigger criticality. However, the species is still to be considered as a highly important sensitive receptor. As per the EBRD PR6 GN6 criteria the species is a priority biodiversity feature (PBF) and the ESIA shall include assessment of potential impacts arising from the construction and operation of the project wind farm and associated facilities, along with recommendations for management, mitigation and monitoring in line with EBRD and lender requirements and international best practice. In conclusion, a number of species of importance regularly fly through the project airspace. The Collision Risk Assessment is presented in the ecological impact assessment section and delves into further detail regarding the outcomes of the Collision Risk Model. Download 6.64 Mb.
