Lesson 1
Module 3
Teacher 2: Well, the challenges are never as new as they seem.
Er, I think it’s still very important
for every teacher to be a
learner. Every teacher should be ready to learn from every
lesson and from every student, and
to be as good at learning
as at teaching because in this way the teacher sets a good
example for learners.
And we shouldn’t pretend
that as teachers we know
everything. It’s … in the modern age, it is not possible to know
everything. There are so many different
fields of knowledge
that you can’t know everything. And it’s better to admit that
to your students because sometimes they can teach you.
And then the third thing which
has been important since
the time of the Ancient Greeks is questioning. I mean, it’s
so important for a teacher to master good questioning
techniques. Er, Socratic questioning
is a well-known method
of questioning when a teacher asks questions and involves
learners in thinking. A good question makes students think.
And a teacher should always be
ready to challenge students
with questions which are not just simply, er, knowledge
questions but questions which make the student er, analyse,
synthesise,
evaluate, er, think at a higher level.
So these are three things which I think are tremendously
important in education.
