These verbs have three types of subject predicative:
an adjective phrase:

Typical verbs: be, appear, feel, look, seem, smell, sound, taste, remain, keep, stay, 
become, get, go, grow, prove, turn, end up
a noun phrase:

William is my friend.
Typical verbs: be, appear, feel, seem, remain, become

wh- word clause: 
He is what we need.
It  is  usual  to  include  cases  where  there  is  an  obligatory  adverbial  in  this  category 
(although they are SVA):
The kitchen is downstairs. She is lying on the grass.
