Income increasing strategies
Farmer-entrepreneurs  can  increase  their  profits  and 
create value through different strategies, such as:
•  Diversify; 
•  Lower costs; 
•  Expand the size of the business; 
•  Add value to the enterprise;
•  Specialise;
•  Differentiate the product; 
•  Integrate. 
Diversifying:  means increasing the number of products 
being  produced  and  sold.  This  increases  the  sources 
of  income,  which  spreads  the  risk  of  loss.  Successful 
diversification strategies look at under-utilised resources 
on  the  farm,  unfilled  demand  and  the  knowledge  and 
skills of the farmer to identify what additional produce to 
produce.
