Historical Notes. This D io cese is bou n ded as follows : ( 1 ) on the North by the D iocese o f Mys ore ; ( 2 ) on the East by the A r c h d io c e s e o f P o n d ic h e r r y and the Dio ce se o f K u m b a k o n a m ; (3 ) on the South by the D iocese o f T r ic h in o p o ly ; ( 4 ) on the W est by the A r c h d io c e s e o f V er ap o ly and the D io cese o f Calicut . Coim bato re was separated in 1846 from the V ica ria te A p o s to l ic o f P o n d ic h e r ry and con fid ed to the care o f Dr- Mar ion de Br esillac, and in 1850 c onstituted into a V i c a r ia t e . By the B rie f o f Sep tember 1886, it was constituted into a Dio ce se and on Ju n e 7, 1887, made suffrag an to the A r c h b i sh o p ric o f P on dic h er ry .
