Letters, words or phrases cited as linguistic examples should be italicizedin the text; we should not use double quotation marks for this purpose. Translations or other explanations of meaning should be given in single quotation marks:
RIGHT: The quantifier many means ‘a lot’.
WRONG: The quantifier ‘many’ means (...)
Sentences quoted from the data should be set apart from the main body of the text by indentation (10) . This is especially important if they are longer than a few words. In this case they should be preceded by Arabic numerals in parentheses.
Note that indented and numbered examples are not italicized. This is a good example of how we may proceed:
