- IV. THE LIST OF THE USED LITERATURE
III. CONCLUSION
In this article I even tried to reveal the types of morphemes in English. I think this topic is very exciting in morphology. Morphology is the study of the formation of phrases in a particular language. It focuses on the internal form of phrases and how they change by adding prefixes and suffixes. It should be obvious from the dialogue above that some morphemes can arise on their own and still convey meaning. Examples of such so-called free morphemes are go, stop, sit, bus, like, and prepare (as in the above example). Some varieties of morphemes, however, cannot arise on their own, such as - ly, - ing, - ed, - er, - s, - dis, - re. These morphemes must be permanently connected to some other morpheme in order to make sense. Hence, these morphemes are called definite morphemes. Notice from the above example of how prepare can change, that prepare is a critical morpheme. It is this so-called root morpheme that is changed by adding the affixes re-, dis and pre (prefixes) and - ed, - er, - ation, - ing and - s (suffixes). For most English phrases, the base is often a stand-alone phrase and is usually far from being a free morpheme. However, there are examples of root morphemes that are not free. An example of this kind of definite root is the phrase unconscionable, in which un - can be related to un - of un-relate, un-justified, un-lawful, and so on. However, unconscionable cannot arise on its own; it constantly seems to be definite in relation to the prefix un-. Another example is the phrase dissuade. Here the prefix dis- can be related to dis- from dis-agree, dis-seem and dis-like, but suade cannot arise by itself. IV. THE LIST OF THE USED LITERATURE 1. Zykova I.V.
