Ask students to vote for the three most important inventions in the list.
• Explain that the words in the box are related to three different categories and that each word has one letter missing. There are two words that both consist of two words and there is a letter missing in each part of the word. Point out that if students do not know the meaning of one or more words in the box, they should guess the possible spelling and what category they go into. Tell students you will explain the meaning of any words they are not sure about when you check the answers. • This exercise could be done in pairs. Check the answers with the whole class. Write the three categories on the board and invite students to come to the board without their books and write any words they can remember in the correct category. Highlight that glass could go into two different categories: glass is a material and a glass is a household item. Answers
