Introduction Stylistic devices are classified as a significant figure of speech in learning English language today. They are commonly used in literature such as advertisements, poems, stories, novels, and riddles, etc. These devices are known for their unique features and are intended to generate ambiguity to convey an implied meaning. Language devices are used in literature to achieve various goals such as criticism, humor, or to express characters’ thoughts and feelings, making the language more appealing and attractive to readers. This, in turn, can enhance the beauty of the language and create more excitement among the readers. A pun is a humorous use of words or phrases that have multiple meanings or similar sounds. Puns are often used in belles-lettres style writing to add humor, wit, or playfulness to the text. Puns can be used in various forms of belles-lettres, including poetry, short stories, novels, plays, and essays. In poetry, puns can be used to create wordplay and clever rhyme schemes. In short stories and novels, puns can add a playful tone to dialogue and narration. In plays, puns can be used to create comedic relief or to enhance the theme of the play. In essays, puns can be used to add humor or to make a point in a clever way. Puns are often associated with humor, but they can also be used for more serious purposes, such as to critique societal issues or to convey philosophical ideas. For example, the Russian writer Vladimir Mayakovsky used puns in his poetry to criticize the government and social issues.
