AKHIL [ACHILLES] (cover name in Venona): Likely Arthur Adams. AKHIL [ACHILLES] was an unidentified GRU agent in Venona. But ACHILLES is identified as Adams’ GRU cover name during 1939–1946 in Russian literature on the GRU, and ACHILLES’s activities reported in the Venona cables fit with FBI surveillance of Adams during World War II. 8
