Vassiliev White Notebook #1, 48. Adams, Arthur Alexandrovich: Soviet intelligence officer, GRU. Adams, born in Sweden, spend much of his early life in Russia and joined the Bolshevik faction of the Russian Social Democratic Labor Party in the early 1900s. He emigrated to Canada and graduated from the University of Toronto with a degree in engineering. He then moved to the United States and joined the radical wing of the Socialist Party. In 1920 he became the head of the technical department of the Soviet Russian Information Bureau, the new Soviet regime’s unofficial diplomatic office. The U.S. government shut down the Bureau in 1921 and deported its staff, including Adams. He returned for several visits in in the late 1920s and early 1930s as a representative of the Soviet aviation industry.
